Sussex based pie maker The Real Pie Company has picked up a Gold Award at the Melton Mowbray British Pie Awards. Their Steak and Mushroom Pie scooped the Gold in the category:
‘Beef & Any Flavour combination Pie – to be eaten and judged HOT!
Launched in 2009 The British Pie Awards are the Oscars of the pie industry. Big Brands and small independent pie makers went head to head at St. Mary’s Church in Melton Mowbray on Wednesday 22nd April 2015 and the winners were announced on 24th April.
The Real Pie’s MD Christine Cossins comments “Having got a Silver for our Chicken and Ham Pie last year and a Bronze for our Pasty we had high hopes we would go one better this year. But getting a Gold in the Steak category competing against over 100 other entrants, is just brilliant.”
Based in Crawley in Sussex, The Real Pie Company was founded 16 years ago. Brett Hornby (Commercial Operations Director) comments “Our ‘crammed to the crust’ philosophy means each hand crafted pie is packed with slow cooked British beef so the customers gets a ‘proper filled pie’ rather than a lot of hot air. Add a delicious gravy, a golden puff pastry crown and you have a winning combination. Just as real beer is enjoying a real revival with thousands of micro-brewers the country is seeing a ‘pie renaissance’ and we are proud that the small pie makers are leading the charge.”
The company now produces hundreds of pies a day in over a dozen flavours. Their tasty high quality pies can been seen on TV on QVC, in supermarkets like the Southern Co-op and in many delis and farm shops across Sussex, Surrey and Hampshire. The Real Pie Company are in the process of expanding their premises to meet the rising demand.
