British plant-based company, The Meatless Farm Co, has appointed Lone Thomsen to the role of Chief Marketing Officer. Starting in September, she will be instrumental to the company’s international expansion and helping to drive strategic growth.
Thomsen, former Head of Media and Connections Strategy and IMC lead, Portfolio Expansion, for The Coca-Cola Company, Western Europe, brings significant international FMCG experience. She has over 15 years of strategic marketing experience in growing global brands, including launching many of The Coca-Cola Company’s recent NPDs, for example Fuze, Honest, Coca-Cola Energy and Signature Mixers. Prior to The Coca-Cola Company, Thomsen held global strategy roles in leading media and advertising agencies.
The Meatless Farm Co has seen exponential growth both in the UK and internationally. It has secured listings in Sainsbury’s, Morrisons and Co-op stores nationwide whilst its international offering includes USA, Ireland, Sweden, Hong Kong, Canada and the UAE.
The company’s recent listing with Whole Foods Market stores across the USA has been an international game changer for the business. The global retail chain is one of the world’s most progressive food retailers, focused on offering innovative products and ingredients in natural and organic foods. The new listing has ensured its place as a serious contender in the global plant-based market, which is predicted to reach $27.9bn by 2025*. The Meatless Farm Co is aiming to drive global market growth, alongside Beyond Burger and Impossible Foods. In testament to its growth, the company recently won The Food and Drink Federation’s prestigious Emerging Business Award.
The company also recently announced a seven-figure deal with Channel 4, which will see the broadcaster take equity in the British company in exchange for commercial airtime across its valuable channel portfolio.
Morten Toft Bech, Founder of The Meatless Farm Co, says: “It’s fantastic news that Lone is joining the Meatless farmers. It’s such an important time in the company’s evolution as the global market heats up. Lone has been a strategic advisor to us since launch and as Chief Marketing Officer, her experience, knowledge and passion will really help drive the company and its continued growth, globally.”
Thomsen added: “We’re experiencing an exponential growth in flexitarians who are substituting meat with a plant-based diet for health, environmental and animal welfare reasons, and the response to the products in the UK, Europe and wider has been phenomenal. I’ve been a supporter of The Meatless Farm Co since launch as its purpose driven values align strongly with my own. Moreover, with the meat alternative category growing substantially and the expansion into the US it was a natural choice for me to join the team. I’m beyond excited about the journey ahead and convinced that together we’re going to grow the brand to new levels.”
