Welcome to the July Grocery Trader. How’s your summer going? The sun’s shining, the schools are out, the students are home – and the next person you try to phone today will probably turn out to be on holiday, so you might as well relax!

Between now and September Britain becomes more chilled, less uptight and more laidback and continental. With Wimbledon behind us, your illicit work-time sports watching options are either women’s beach volleyball (we’ll email you the link if you want!) or the Tour de France, which goes on for three glorious weeks. So why not get into the holiday mood too, and celebrate Bastille Day dans votre office on Thursday 14 July!

In this month’s features we take our first look at Back to School (we have a revision session in September), get a flavour of what’s on offer in Ethnic Food & Drink and sample Snacking. In our interviews we hear from The Logic Group, experts in managing card payment information and transactions securely, and SSI Schaefer, masters in maximising ‘E’fficiency in the supply chain with its new family of folding returnable crates and other plastic containers under the Eco Tec brand.

Maintaining compliance with payment card industry initiatives such as PCI DSS, Verified by Visa and Mastercard Secure Code while preventing fraudulent attacks can be a costly and complex challenge, but help is at hand. A major exhibitor at this year’s Retail Business Technology Expo the Logic Group partners with supermarkets and other leading retailers across Europe to enhance the effectiveness, security and profitability of their customer interactions. The Logic Group specialises in secure management of cardholder information and transactions, with trusted payment and loyalty solutions that enable increased revenue, improved profit and reduced operating costs and risk. We speak to Robin Adams, their Director of Security, Risk and Compliance.

SSI Schaefer’s world-renowned expertise in materials handling and storage solutions extends from plastic containers and racking systems to large-scale automated warehouse projects. SSI Schaefer has been making headlines designing, building and installing automated storage facilities for blue chip names like Budweiser, Carlsberg, Office Depot and TJ Morris. While pressing on with big contracts across Europe, SSI Schaefer has also been busy building its presence in Returnable Transit Packaging, with particular emphasis on multiple grocers, with its new Eco Tec folding returnable crates and other plastic containers  which come in a range of models and sizes to meet retailers’ and suppliers’ needs to keep food fresh right through to the point of sale. We hear from Bob Jane, SSI Schaefer’s Business Development Manager.

Have a great month.
