Two new own-brand ranges of products have been launched by Tesco to help support customers with their digestive health and increasing their protein intake – available in a number of its larger stores and online from today (Monday 20 January 2025).

Developed by Tesco’s team of expert in-house chefs and approved by nutritionists, there is the new Gut Sense range aimed at supporting gut health, and a new High Protein range offering affordable, tasty protein-packed options.

Tesco Gut Sense range

Tesco Gut Sense includes a range of kefir products. These fermented yoghurts and drinks are made with 100% British milk, 14 different strains of live kefir cultures and provide a source of calcium, helping to support digestive health whist being naturally high in protein. Calcium supports the normal function of digestive enzymes as part of a varied and balanced diet and healthy lifestyle.

The Gut Sense range includes the following new products:

Tesco Gut Sense Natural/Plain Kefir Drink – £1.75 (500ml) / Source of calcium

Tesco Gut Sense Raspberry Kefir Drink – £1.75 (500ml) / Source of calcium

Tesco Gut Sense Natural Kefir Yoghurt – £1.50 (350g) / Source of calcium

Last January, customers searched for Kefir almost 80,000 times, and the words ‘gut health’ more than 6,000 times on Tesco.com, showing a growing demand for looking after digestive health and affordable, accessible products like these.

Danielle Simpson, Brand manager – Own Brand Health at Tesco, said: “We know how important eating healthily is for our customers and we want to make sure they can shop conveniently for everything they need.

“People are looking for more support to maintain good digestive health, particularly with the gut influencing so many bodily functions, so being able to introduce the new Gut Sense Kefir yoghurts was really important to us, providing a source of calcium and supporting healthy digestion including 14 strains of live cultures.

“We’re also excited to be launching the new High Protein range with options including fat-free yoghurts, snacks and meals that are both delicious and nutritious, covering breakfast, lunch and dinner, and each available for under £3.”

Research by Tesco* found that after heart health (47%), gut health (37%) topped the list of health areas that Brits surveyed are most concerned about. Many people are taking proactive measures to help maintain a healthy gut, including incorporating more fibre (70%), probiotics and live cultures (27%) into their diet. The survey also found that almost 60% of UK adults are prioritising – or will try to prioritise – consuming protein as part of their diet in 2025.

*The research figures reported are from our January Health Trends report with data based on a survey conducted between 22/11/2024 and 25/11/2024 polling over 3,000 UK adults aged 18-89 via the Tesco Home Panel. When referencing Tesco.com searches, the data refers to searches between 01/01/24 and 31/01/24 and is based on unique searches.
