Relationship between design-based distributor and leading provider of money counting machines expands with launch of T-iX weight-based cash counting system.
Alpha Micro, the independent franchised distributor of electronic components, has supplied the Lantronix XPort® for Tellermate’s new T-iX weight-based cash counting system. The Tellermate Group, a leading provider of money counting machines and cash management systems, selected the XPort from Alpha Micro for the T-iX system’s serial to Ethernet backbone to ensure that it provides a speedy, secure and reliable network for its customers.
Driven by demand for faster and more accurate cash management information, the T-iX range is the next stage of connected and networked money counters and builds on the success of the popular TY+ range. The TY+ is used across the globe by organisations including Barclays, Boots, HSBC, Disney, Alton Towers, and McDonalds. The T-iX offers a larger feature set, including more advanced connectivity to customers’ cash office systems, enhanced user interface including the market’s largest screen and design features to resist impacts and liquid ingress.
Christos Papakyriacou, Managing Director of Alpha Micro Components, said: “With the launch of the T-iX system, Tellermate is able to offer its varied base of international clients a flexible range of cash management solutions. The secure Ethernet connectivity gained through the use of the Lantronix XPort has allowed Tellermate to ensure that it provides its customers with the speed and accuracy they demand.”
Alpha Micro Components and Tellermate have worked together since 2003, when Tellermate chose Alpha Micro to supply the FT232B from Future Technology Devices Ltd (FTDI) for its TY range of money counters. Following the success of this partnership and Alpha Micro’s close relationship with Lantronix, Tellermate chose to continue their affiliation when they began using the Lantronix’ CoBox in its TY range.
The organisations’ partnership expanded the following year when Alpha Micro began providing the Lantronix XPort for Tellermate’s new TY+ range. The XPort was chosen because it was seen as the best solution thanks to its compact size and ability to web enable virtually any device with serial capability. By incorporating XPort within the product’s design, Tellermate was able to offer serial to Ethernet networking capability as a standard feature which would allow its customers to access and control the cash counting machines over the Internet.
John Pilkington, General Manager of Engineering and Operations for Tellermate, commented: “We have developed a very successful relationship with Alpha Micro. The combination of its high-end electronic component ranges and in-house design expertise has allowed us to expand our customer offerings confident in the knowledge that we will be getting highly reliable solutions with the technical support our clients demand.”
To facilitate the cash management process, the TY+ and T-iX ranges offer Ethernet access. This improved connectivity reduces manual reporting and eliminates errors in data entry, therefore saving time and increasing record accuracy. This is especially beneficial for multi-branch operations, ensuring visibility of cash levels and discrepancies by providing timely cash data for reconciliation and discrepancy reporting.
Pilkington added: “When we were developing the TY+ range, the machine’s board was designed so that a simple drop in serial to Ethernet solution could be utilised. After years of success with the CoBox, it was a natural progression to the XPort as it offered a faster solution and smaller footprint, whilst still providing excellent security and reliability. Alpha Micro’s design and engineering teams offered us specially written software that helped us smooth our customers’ transition to the XPort after a number of successful years utilising the CoBox.”
Christos Papakyriacou, Managing Director of Alpha Micro Components, said: “The XPort® offered Tellermate the most flexible solution – physically small, low cost and a speedy development cycle. It has a proven track record as an efficient, easy to fit device for making equipment enabling network.”
Alpha Micro’s design-based approach to distribution and in-depth product knowledge includes a team of in-house design engineers that work at integrating components from the franchised product lines into board-level designs, therefore adding real value to the solutions on offer and providing customers with products that exactly meet their varied and demanding requirements.
