Takis, the cult snacking brand known for its extreme heat and intense flavours, is set to launch Intense Nacho, its first non-spicy SKU, into the UK grocery market this month.
Rated zero heat on the Takis heat-o-meter, Intense Nacho has all the intensity of the rest of the Takis UKI portfolio. Its extremely cheesy flavour taps into the huge popularity of cheese flavoured snacks; it is currently the top flavour in the category and has a growing market share[1].
Already hugely popular in the US, Intense Nacho was the flavour that most new Takis consumers bought in 2023 and the third-most purchased flavour in the rolled tortilla segment[2]. It is expected that Intense Nacho will perform well in the UK market, with 77% of shoppers admitting that they find the new flavour appealing, 80% saying that they would buy Intense Nacho if they saw it on shelf and 73% believing that it is different to anything else in the market[3].
Becky Allan, Marketing Manager at Takis, said: “Since exploding into the UK market just two years ago, Takis has pioneered the heat segment, driving incremental growth to the category and experiencing value and volume growth in the last 12 months[4]. We are known – and loved – by UK consumers for our extreme heat but understand that extreme heat isn’t for everyone.
“Our ambition has always been to disrupt the snacking market, and we are excited to launch a new flavour that might be a little unexpected and will keep the snacking category on its toes. Intense Nacho still has the signature Takis intensity – but without the spice. After all, intensity is for everyone!”
The Takis product range packs a punch with varying degrees of heat. Fuego, Takis’ signature flavour, is rated extreme on its heat-o-meter, and likened to a bite of lava with an intense flavour combination of hot chilli pepper and lime. Blue Heat is also rated as extreme, Dragon Sweet Chilli is less intense and rated hot, with Intense Nacho coming in at zero heat.
Takis Intense Nacho (180g), RRP £3 will be available on shelf in Iceland from the 20th May.
