The fast-growing Italian food challenger will launch two of its bestselling gnocchi SKUs into Booths stores across the North West, days after expanding into fresh sauces with a 300-store Sainsbury’s launch.
Sunny & Luna, the female-founded challenger brand on a mission to bring Italian food into the 21st century, has secured a new listing with Booths, as it continues to expand its UK retail footprint and build beyond its original pasta and gnocchi range.
From 22 September, Sunny & Luna’s Spinach Gnocchi and Pumpkin Gnocchi (RRP £4.25) will be available across 25 Booths stores in the North West, giving the brand a significant new regional presence.
The listing comes just days after Sunny & Luna announced its biggest category expansion to date, moving beyond pasta and gnocchi for the first time with the launch of its own range of fresh Italian sauces.
Growing the range, growing the reach
Two of the new sauces – Aubergine & Salted Ricotta Tomato Sauce and Sundried Tomato Pesto – launched into 300 Sainsbury’s stores nationwide from 16 September, with the wider three-product range also planned to roll out on Ocado.com in October.
Together, the launches mark the latest stage in a period of rapid growth for the independently owned business, which was founded by Milan-born entrepreneur Giulia Berretti in 2022.
Building a bigger UK presence
Since launching, Sunny & Luna has expanded from its first Whole Foods listing into a growing national retail presence, with distribution now spanning Sainsbury’s, Whole Foods Market, Planet Organic, Ocado and Booths. The brand has also continued to broaden its range, moving from its original pasta and gnocchi products into fresh sauces for the first time this month.
The Booths launch forms part of Sunny & Luna’s wider ambition to continue growing its presence across the UK while building the brand into a broader modern Italian food business.
Giulia Berretti, Founder and CEO of Sunny & Luna, comments: “Booths has been a retailer we’ve wanted to work with for a long time, so securing this listing is a really exciting milestone for us. We started Sunny & Luna with a small range and a big ambition: to rethink Italian food for the way people live today.
In the space of just a few days, we’re launching into a completely new category with our sauces and extending our retail presence with Booths, which feels like a really strong reflection of where the business is heading. Our focus now is on continuing to grow our presence across the UK, bringing more shoppers into the brand and building Sunny & Luna into a much broader modern Italian food business.”
