Oakland International call in Starkey Electrical for wiring of new multi-temperature facility

Starkey Electrical Limited, the Halesowen-based electricians, have been working with Oakland International, the Queen’s Award-winning food storage and distribution specialists, on the large scale wiring installation at their new multi-temperature warehouse in Bardon, Leicestershire.

Oakland moved into their new premises in summer 2020 to expand their UK capacity. Time was short and the electrical work needed to make the facility fully operational posed a major challenge. So Oakland International engaged Starkey Electrical for the complete project.

Oakland International Chief Executive and Co-Founder Dean Attwell said: “Starkey Electrical has been the contracted M&E partner for Oakland International since 2009 and was the natural choice for the installation at Bardon.”

Halesowen-based Starkey Electrical Ltd was founded by MD Stuart Starkey in 2009. They have worked with Oakland since Starkey Electrical began on various projects at Oakland’s premises in Redditch and Corby.  Starkey Electrical have been members of the NICEIC and Trustmark approved since 2009 and ensure all their projects are completed to NICEIC standard. Starkey Electrical became CHAS accredited in August 2020.

As described by Oakland CEO Dean Attwell, the Bardon project included a full LED lighting scheme, refrigeration wiring for the complete warehouse, four packing lines and associated controllers and around 40 electrical hook-ups for refrigerated trailers.  The job also included fully kitting out 16,000 sq. ft. of offices and welfare areas.

“The project was driven against very tight timelines,” Dean Attwell continued, “with just twelve weeks to completely refrigerate and wire the entire facility. Starkey Electrical’s committed team worked seamlessly with the other contractors on site. They took a leading role in project managing and delivering against the high standards of functionality required and achieving this within the allocated time window.”

“We know the Oakland team very well,” said Stuart Starkey. “Our biggest job for them before this was a similar project in Corby, equipping a new warehouse. Bardon is on a higher level altogether.”
