Growth in the UK Halloween and Bonfire Night sector is driven by social media trends, pop culture influence, and a shift toward commercialised home celebrations.

According to market analysis from sources like IGD, spending has expanded significantly over the past decade into a billion-pound autumn trading period.

Platforms like TikTok and Instagram heavily influence early purchases, dictating viral food recipes, aesthetic home decor, and themed apparel trends.

American TV shows, films, and streaming series have mainstreamed immersive spooky storytelling, inspiring themed parties, costumes, and limited-edition product collaborations.

Millennials and Gen Z (particularly ages 16–34) embrace Halloween as a major social event for hosting gatherings, buying professional costumes, and purchasing seasonal treats.

Consumers increasingly treat autumn festivities as a cost-effective way to connect at home, driving up off-trade sales for confectionery, savoury snacks, and alcohol.

Retailers now market “spooky season” much earlier—stretching demand from late summer into November ahead of Black Friday—with strong cross-category growth in items like themed loungewear, candles, and homeware.

Halloween has become a major revenue driver for UK retailers, with 62% of households celebrating annually according to YouGov data. The seasonal confectionery market is now worth £263m (NielsenIQ Scantrack & Kantar WPO), supported by YouGov findings that 20% of households host or attend parties and 19% buy treats for trick-or-treaters.

With the event coinciding with Saturday and October half term, early and strategic planning is vital. According to NIQ Scantrack data, 57% of shoppers delay planning until the final week. “Halloween’s evolution into a mainstream celebration creates tremendous opportunities for retailers who approach it strategically,” notes Lauren George, External Communications Manager at Mars Wrigley. “By understanding the distinct roles different formats play and ensuring comprehensive ranging across all consumer needs, retailers can maximise this growing event’s potential.”

Key category growth is heavily driven by sharing bags and fun-size treats.

Sharing bags was the fastest-growing Halloween format in 2025, rising +7.1% in value sales overall, with Mars Wrigley brands—such as Maltesers®, M&M’S®, and Galaxy Minstrels®—outpacing the market at +8.2% (NIQ Scantrack). Mars Wrigley accounts for five of the top 10 sharing brands, holding a 64% category value share. Tins and tubs also build cross-seasonal loyalty, as NIQ Scantrack notes nearly half of these buyers repurchase for Christmas.

Fun-size formats are crucial for trick-or-treating, 80% of fun-size shoppers buy exclusively chocolate and fruity items during the last fortnight (Halloween spending & shopping trends 2025). Mars Wrigley supplies six of the top 10 fun-size products, driving 54% of category value sales (NIQ Scantrack).

To capitalise on the late rush, Mars Wrigley is expanding its lineup. “This Halloween, Mars Wrigley is strengthening its seasonal confectionery offering with the launch of new M&M’S® Chocolate Minis Funsize,” says George, “bringing one of the nation’s favourite chocolate brands into the fun-sized sharing format for the first time.” The release is joined by returning SKITTLES® Darkside, on-pack Disneyland® Paris promotions, and high-impact POS displays to drive last-minute impulse sales.

Mondelez International is adding limited-edition Sour Patch Kids Monster Heads to its Halloween range for 2026. The Halloween range brings together chocolate and sugar confectionery, as well as cookie treats, with each category designed to help retailers make the most of the seasonal sales opportunity across trick-or-treating, sharing, parties and at-home snacking.

Seasonal celebrations remain a key driver of overall confectionery sales with the confectionery market worth more than £65.1m over the 2025 six-week Halloween period (NIQ). This presents a great opportunity for retailers to offer a strong mix of treatsize, sharing and limited-edition products to meet shopper demand.

As one of the fastest-growing confectionery brands (NIQ), growing 26.9% year-on-year (NIQ), Sour Patch Kids is bringing extra mischief to Halloween this year with the UK launch of Sour Patch Kids Monster Heads. The limited-edition seasonal innovation features scarily good, bigger “Big Kids” jelly pieces in spooky monster-head shapes, with dual-flavour, dual-colour combinations across Watermelon, Raspberry and Orange.

Sour Patch Kids Watermelon & Strawberry Treatsize is returning for 2026 following a strong launch last year, delivering £1.3M RSV (NIQ) and becoming the #1 NPD in Total Halloween (NIQ).

Maynards Bassetts will also bring seasonal fun to the fixture with a playful Halloween-themed return, with Spooky Gums returning as an additional SKU within the Wine Gums range.

Cadbury Treatsize Sharing Selection 223g is also returning, following successive demand for trusted Cadbury favourites in seasonal formats. The pack contains Cadbury Buttons, Cadbury Crunchie, Cadbury Twirl, Cadbury Fudge and Cadbury Freddo, offering a variety of individually wrapped treats for trick-or-treaters and sharing occasions. There’s also the return of Cadbury Dairy Milk Freddo & Friends sharing pack, as well as a Cadbury Fudge treatsize pack.

OREO, the world’s #1 cookie (Euromonitor), is also joining Halloween fun with the return of OREO Spooky. Featuring Halloween-inspired cookie embossing and orange-coloured creme, OREO Spooky brings a playful seasonal twist while keeping the same much-loved OREO taste.

Susan Nash, Trade Communications Manager at Mondelez International said: “Halloween is a pivotal sales opportunity for the confectionery market, and consumers are looking for trusted brands in formats that are fun and easy to share, while embracing the spooky season. Our 2026 range brings together Cadbury treatsize favourites, the return of OREO Spooky, playful Maynards Bassetts packs and the new Sour Patch Kids Monster Heads, giving retailers a strong mix of trusted favourites and seasonal innovation to boost their Halloween sales.”

Confectionery remains a primary driver of footfall and sales in the UK convenience and impulse sector, particularly during peak seasonal periods. In a budget-conscious climate, sweet confectionery acts as an affordable, high-quality treat, with 1 in 5 shoppers trading into sweets during key seasons (Giraffe) and Halloween ranking among the top 10 purchasing occasions (Giraffe). Over the Halloween period, themed products represent 30% of category sales (Circana), with 55% of consumers preferring seasonal options over everyday lines (Giraffe).

Duncan Tyrrell, Head of Category at HARIBO UK, highlights: “Confectionery is a cornerstone of the UK Convenience and Impulse market and a hugely important driver of both footfall and sales.”

As the top manufacturer of Halloween-themed share bags, holding a 36% market share (Kantar), HARIBO is expanding its portfolio for 2026. The lineup features channel-exclusive launches such as HARIBO Sour Bats alongside top-performing lines like HARIBO Bone Shakers, MAOAM Halloween Mixx, and Starmix Pumpkin Bumper Boxes. Individually wrapped formats, including the HARIBO Sharing Tub and MAOAM Stripes Share Bag, cater to trick-or-treating and social gatherings.

On the range strategy, Tyrrell notes: “Our Halloween range combines much-loved seasonal favourites with exciting new additions such as HARIBO Sour Bats, giving retailers a strong mix of formats and price points to build shopper excitement, meet different shopper needs and drive sales throughout the season.”

To optimise seasonal performance, retailers are advised to launch displays towards the end of September to capture the 18% (IRI) of category value sales generated in the first three weeks. With Halloween falling on a Saturday in 2026, a strong final-week rush is expected, accounting for nearly 25% of total value sales (IRI).

Commenting on the timing, Tyrrell advises: “With Halloween taking place on a Saturday and strong sales anticipated in the weeks running up, we are advising retailers to stock up early to take advantage of a bumper year.”

As health and budget considerations continue to shape shopper behaviour, Halloween remains one of the largest confectionery moments of the year.

Mark Roberts, Marketing & Trade Marketing Director UK at Perfetti Van Melle, stresses that delivering the right mix across the category is crucial: “Whether shoppers are buying for trick-or-treating, parties or family nights in, they want products they know and trust. That’s why breadth of range is so important at Halloween – retailers don’t need to choose between indulgence and sugar-free, they need the right balance of both.”

To balance indulgent innovation with portion control, Perfetti Van Melle is expanding its seasonal lineup with category-first multi-textured offerings like Experimentos, along with Mini Mentos in a bag-in-bag format. Heritage brands like Chupa Chups and Fruit-tella remain central to high-volume sharing, supported by practical sustainable packaging updates such as reduced plastic usage and added recycling guidance.

With HFSS restrictions shifting how products are positioned in-store, retailers are relying more heavily on dedicated seasonal aisles, branded floor stands, and cross-category displays alongside bakery, costumes, and decorations to build in-store theatre. Additionally, with Halloween falling on a weekend in 2026 alongside half-term, consumer participation is expected to spread across multiple occasions.

Highlighting the opportunity for retailers to capitalise on diverse shopper missions, Roberts notes: “Halloween remains a high-consumption, high-participation moment for confectionery, and this year the weekend timing gives retailers more missions to play for, from trick-or-treating to parties and family film nights. The opportunity is to make the seasonal aisle work harder, using strong branded activation and the right mix of formats to capture shoppers who are buying for several occasions, not just one.”

Through cultural partnerships, such as the Chupa Chups x Stranger Things collaboration, and accessible formats like lollies and multipacks, brands can engage both adults and families seeking high-value seasonal celebrations.

Halloween continues to present a major sales opportunity for confectionery, driven by consumer demand for visually distinctive, interactive, and shareable treats. Across trick-or-treating, social gatherings, and at-home celebrations, shoppers increasingly seek bold flavours, playful shapes, and sensory-led formats.

Highlighting the visual and experiential appeal required for the season, Steven Greaves, Managing Director UK and Ireland at Fini, notes: “Halloween represents a strong seasonal opportunity for confectionery, with the occasion naturally driving demand for products that feel fun, visually distinctive and easy to share.”

To help convenience retailers capitalise on these varied purchasing missions and drive incremental spend, Fini offers a range spanning gummy sweets, novelty chewing gum, and larger sharing formats across accessible price points.

Pumpkin Tub (RSP £3.99) is an eye-catching, pumpkin-shaped sharing tub packed with fruity sweets, ideal for parties and trick-or-treating.

Scary Box (RSP £1.99) is a mummy-themed gift box filled with a spooky mix of gummy and jelly sweets.

Boom Vampire Gum & Zombie Gum (RSP £1.00 each) are extra-sour gums featuring mouth-painting effects that tap into consumer demand for interactive and sensory treats.

Pirate Skulls (RSP £1.00) are soft, skull-shaped gummy sweets delivering bold visual appeal and texture.

On the strategic range composition for retailers, Greaves highlights: “For retailers, the opportunity lies in building a focused Halloween range that combines accessible impulse lines with larger sharing formats, helping to cater to different shopper missions while encouraging incremental spend.”

By blending budget-friendly novelty impulse lines with theatre-led sharing options, retailers can effectively elevate the seasonal fixture and maximise shopper engagement across all Halloween occasions.

World of Sweets has unveiled its 2026 Halloween and Christmas range, focusing on low-cost novelty, licensed products, and premium gifting across key £1 to £1.25 price points. The seasonal opportunity remains significant, with sweets generating £207 million in the four weeks leading up to Halloween 2025, up 1.5% year-on-year and Christmas sweets reaching £548 million in the 12 weeks to 27 December 2025, up 2% in value and 0.3% in units (IRI Circana).

For Halloween, new additions include Candy Realms Jelly Pumpkins, Candy Skulls, and £1 Mallow Pops, alongside refreshed 2026 packaging for Bonds Fizzy Fangs and Monster Mash. The Christmas portfolio spans value-driven impulse lines, such as Candy Realms Festive Gummy Pops (50p) and Bonds Choco Stars (£1), through to interactive lines from Elves Behavin’ Badly, collectable PEZ formats (£7.2m UK retail value), and The Traitors novelty range. High-end gifting is anchored by Anthon Berg’s updated liqueur and cocktail collections (RRP £5.49–£18.99).

Commenting on the strategy behind the 2026 portfolio, Kathryn Hague, Group Head of Marketing at World of Sweets, says: “Seasonal confectionery gives retailers a real opportunity to bring newness and theatre into store. Shoppers still want great value, but Halloween and Christmas are also occasions when fun, novelty and gifting become much more important. For 2026 we have built a broad range covering everything from £1 bags and low-cost stocking fillers through to interactive confectionery, licensed products and premium gifting, giving retailers plenty of ways to maximise the seasonal opportunity.”

Retailers can access the range via Hancocks, World of Sweets, and Bobby’s Foods, with early ordering recommended to capture peak seasonal demand.

Hames Chocolates, the Lincolnshire-based chocolate manufacturer, is expanding its seasonal confectionery portfolio with the launch of its new Solid Milk Chocolate Assorted Halloween Shapes.

Available in a 100g recyclable stand-up pouch, the new Halloween mixed pouch features assorted solid milk chocolate pumpkins, bats and skulls, designed to deliver strong on-shelf standout and drive seasonal impulse sales.

Launching for Halloween 2026, the product is supplied in an outer of nine, with a wholesale price of £2.40 per pouch and an RRP of £3.50 per pouch. The range has been developed to support retailers looking to build engaging Halloween fixtures with products that offer fun, quality and accessible seasonal appeal.

With Halloween falling on a weekend in 2026, Hames Chocolates sees a strong opportunity for confectionery formats that support multiple shopper missions, from trick-or-treating and family sharing to party bowls, gifting and seasonal nights in.

Bold Halloween packaging and recognisable seasonal shapes ensure strong impact in seasonal bays, gifting displays, till points and secondary sitings, while the 100g pouch format offers retailers a flexible line that can work across both planned and impulse purchase occasions.

Carol Oldbury, CEO at Hames Chocolates, said: “Halloween has become an increasingly important retail moment, with shoppers looking for products that deliver fun, theatre and value, as well as strong quality cues. “Our new Solid Milk Chocolate Assorted Halloween Shapes have been developed to help retailers maximise the seasonal opportunity with a product that is easy to merchandise, visually engaging and suited to a range of Halloween occasions. From trick-or-treating to family sharing and weekend hosting, it is a format designed to work hard in store while giving shoppers an accessible, fun and high-quality seasonal treat.”

Made using Rainforest Alliance mass balance cocoa and packed in a 100% recyclable pouch, the product also supports growing demand for seasonal confectionery with more considered sourcing and packaging credentials.

The new Solid Milk Chocolate Assorted Halloween Shapes will be available for Halloween 2026.

Halloween and Bonfire Night represent a combined £531 million retail opportunity, up 20.6% since 2020 (Global Data). The season has expanded into a six- to eight-week trading window, requiring a strategic shift in retail planning.

Addressing the changing timeline, Jo Harwood, Chief Sales and Trade Marketing Officer at Fox’s Burton’s Companies (FBC), notes: “As the seasonal timelines for Halloween blur, retailers should approach the event in a similar fashion to the festive period. The key is to match ranging and merchandising to changing shoppers’ needs throughout the season.”

Since its UK debut in 2024, FBC’s NERDS brand has reached £30 million, growing 45% year-on-year (NIQ). For 2026, FBC is expanding the brand with NERDS Cherry Lemonade Gummy Clusters and bringing back Party Rings ‘Trick or Treat’ Minis. FBC is also tapping into broader autumn trends with Fox’s Chocolatey Pumpkin Spiced Creams, following flavour launches like Dubai-Style Chocolate and Matcha, which previously added £3.4 million to the category (Circana).

With Halloween falling on a Saturday in 2026, FBC highlights the potential for increased at-home social gatherings.

Harwood explains: “With Halloween falling on a Saturday this year, retailers should also be prepared for shoppers hosting more at-home parties and events. To maximise this opportunity, we’d recommend that retailers cross-merchandise seasonal treats with party food and soft drinks to help unlock additional basket spend.”

Retailers are also advised not to overlook Bonfire Night, where sweet biscuit assortments, such as Fox’s Chocolatey Cookies Assortment (MSRP £4.50, up 71.5% year-on-year), support cosy sharing occasions. Recommending a phased transition into November, Harwood adds: “Extending seasonal displays for just a few extra days can help capture additional basket spend before Christmas trading fully takes over.” Fox’s Burton’s Companies has relaunched the spooky variety of its Party Rings minis after a successful debut in 2025, which brought over 200k new shoppers into the brand, and over £650k in incremental sales to the category in just eight weeks (Numerator by Worldpanel).

The product features bite-sized biscuits with vibrant seasonal icing in fun Halloween-inspired shapes, including bats, cats, and pumpkins.

The return is expected to be well received by shoppers, after many shared their love for the seasonal variation on social media in 2025, with one shopper calling them a “perfect Halloween snack” while another added, “These really are delicious!”

Harwood says: “Halloween has turned from a one-day event into a six-to-eight-week trading opportunity in recent years. Shoppers embrace the occasion earlier and looking for affordable, fun ways to get into the spooky spirit, giving retailers an extended selling window.

“We saw the appetite for Party Rings Trick or Treat Minis first-hand last year, so we’re excited to be bringing them back for 2026. With a proven track record of driving incremental sales and recruiting new shoppers, they’re a must-stock for retailers looking to maximise sales throughout spooky season.”

The product will MRSP at the same price as last year – £2.10 for a ten-pack of mini bags (10 x 21g per bag) and promo at £1.75.

Savoury snacking remains a dominant retail category, with 99% of UK consumers enjoying savoury snacks (Kantar Worldpanel) and 32% of snack sales occurring during the evening hours of 5pm–9pm (Kantar Worldpanel). As cost-conscious shoppers prioritise at-home socialising, Big Night In occasions such as Halloween and Bonfire Night offer significant growth opportunities for convenience retailers.

Ed Merrett, Wholesale Controller at PepsiCo, emphasises the importance of balancing core best-sellers with new product innovation to capture evening demand: “When doing so, it is important for retailers to remember that consumers are loyal to brands they know and flavours they love. This means that stocking a strong core of best-sellers is essential for repeat sales. While new product development (NPD) adds excitement, the winning formula is innovation combined with a solid core range.”

To cater to social gatherings, PepsiCo is driving growth through larger sharing formats across its core brands, including Doritos, non-HFSS Sensations SKUs, and recent additions like That’s Nuts in Walkers Prawn Cocktail and Monster Munch Pickled Onion flavours. Portfolio additions such as Cheetos Original Cheese (125g) target Gen Z consumers, while Walkers Sensations Thai Sweet Chilli Wavy Cut (140g) expands on the UK’s leading sweet chilli crisp flavour to encourage premium trade-up.

To maximise seasonal revenue, Merrett advises retailers to optimise their shelf positioning and secondary displays for sharing formats: “Retailers should place their sharing formats at the top of the main displays so they are right in the shopper’s eyeline. This grabs attention and encourages trade-up to larger packs, which deliver higher value than singles. As a general rule of thumb, the higher the value, the higher they should sit.”

Crisps, Snacks, and Nuts (CSN) represent a critical category for retailers during the autumn season, driven by consumers stocking up for Halloween and Bonfire Night get-togethers and Big Night In movie occasions. Sharing formats lead this trend, as Stuart Graham, Head of Convenience and Impulse at KP Snacks, highlights: “To capitalise on Bonfire Night and Halloween and the strength of the Sharing segment, retailers should stock a range of Sharing CSN products. Worth £2.1bn and growing, Sharing is the largest segment in CSN.”

To support these social occasions, KP Snacks offers a varied portfolio across several key segments.

KP Nuts (£101m brand value) provides high-value, HFSS-exempt options naturally rich in protein and fibre.

As the UK’s leading ridged crisp brand, McCoy’s adds excitement with McCoy’s Hot & Spicy alongside its entry into the nuts segment via McCoy’s Coated Peanuts (£1.35 PMP) in popular flavours like Flame Grilled Steak, Salt & Malt Vinegar, and Thai Sweet Chicken.

Butterkist serves as the nation’s top popcorn brand with a 30% market share, ideal for cosy family film nights.

popchips is the number one Better for You bagged snack brand in sharing formats, offering under 100 calories per serving.

Tyrrells delivers a premium, hand-cooked crisp experience tailored to seasonal hosting.

Reinforcing the breadth of consumer occasions across the season, Graham notes: “At KP Snacks, we are catering to the growth of sharing occasions with a diverse portfolio of tasty snacks to generate demand and drive sales. Our exciting range has something for everyone, from tasty nuts to popcorn to pretzels and, of course, crisps.”

Takis® is bringing back one of its most talked about seasonal launches with Takis® Zombie returning to UK shelves this Halloween. With its signature Habanero Chilli, Cucumber & Lime combination, the limited edition variant taps into strong consumer demand for intense flavours and retailer appetite for early, high impact Halloween activation.

Halloween continues to grow as a seasonal event – it is now worth £779m (Finder/YouGov) driven primarily by Gen Z and millennial shoppers who account for 80% of engagement (Finder/YouGov) – and retailers now treat it like a major retail season with spend rising across decorations, costumes, pumpkins and food. Snacks remain a core category, with consumers increasingly seeking out bold flavours and party ready formats.

With an intense burst of heat, balanced by a crisp cucumber and refreshing lime finish, Takis® Zombie taps directly into these behaviours and consumer research showing 7 in 10 would purchase for TV or movie moments (UK Consumer Research) and two in three shoppers saying it’s unlike anything else on shelf (Vypr).

Available now, the 2026 return will be supported by a full seasonal execution plan including horror movie night partnerships and themed creator content, whilst October will see tactical party sampling, social challenges and spooky secondary displays to maximise peak season visibility.

In store theatre will play a major role given that 44% of shoppers say attractive displays make them more likely to buy Halloween products (Vypr), so Takis® Zombie will be supported by seasonal bays, FSDUs, clip strips and header cards designed to create standout moments across convenience and grocery.

Available in 55g PMP, 100g and 180g formats, the launch gives retailers a long run-up to capturing early Halloween spend and driving incremental value across the snacks category.

Coca-Cola Europacific Partners (CCEP) has announced plans for its new ‘Horrorverse’ Halloween activity, including limited-edition collectible packs across the range and a disruptive marketing campaign called ‘Wanta Fanta? Run For It’.

The activity is designed to help retailers make the most of one of the biggest seasonal opportunities in the retail calendar, when shoppers are looking for fun, immersive experiences and products that help bring Halloween celebrations to life.

Flavoured carbonates play an important role during the season, particularly across parties, sharing occasions and nights in. Fanta is well placed to help retailers tap into this demand, with its variants accounting for 17.4% of all flavoured carbonates sold during Halloween 2025 (Nielsen).

The Fanta range has received a temporary makeover featuring Ghost Face from the Scream franchise alongside a cast of original Fanta horror characters, aimed at driving talkability and giving Fanta fans a series of must-have packs to collect.

Designed to deliver maximum stand-out on shelf, the collectible packs will be available in a range of formats, giving Fanta fans a series of limited-edition designs to discover throughout the season. The activity is designed to help retailers create excitement, encourage repeat purchases and build anticipation in the run-up to Halloween.

The ‘Horrorverse’ introduces a cast of original Fanta characters designed to come to life beyond pack through content, creator partnerships and consumer experiences throughout the Halloween season.

Fanta Orange and Fanta Orange Zero Sugar will feature Ghost Face (from Scream), Fanta Lemon will feature Haystacks, Fanta Fruit Twist and Fruit Twist Zero Sugar will feature Drayk, Fanta Grape will feature Howlie and Fanta Mango will feature Franx.

The limited-edition packs will be supported by a multi-million-pound marketing campaign called ‘Wanta Fanta? Run For It’, which includes paid social media, influencer activity, digital, out of home advertising and experiential activations, bringing the ‘Horrorverse’ characters to life for Fanta fans throughout the Halloween season.

Free POS materials are available from My.CCEP.com to help retailers create in-store theatre and get shoppers into the Halloween spirit (while stocks last).

Rob Yeomans, Vice-President, Commercial Development at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners GB, says: “Halloween is a huge opportunity for retailers, and Fanta has a strong track record of helping customers make the most of the occasion through impactful campaigns and eye-catching packs.

“The introduction of the Horrorverse allows us to take that a step further this year. From Ghost Face to Fanta’s own cast of horror characters, we’re creating a world that shoppers can engage with throughout the season. Combined with significant marketing investment and in-store activation, we’re confident the campaign will help retailers create excitement, drive footfall and boost sales during this important trading period.”

Halloween and Bonfire Night serve as major trading occasions for retailers, driven by growing consumer demand for convenience, social gatherings, and Big Night In celebrations. Ready-to-Drink (RTD) beverages play a vital role during these events, offering simple, ready-to-serve options for house parties, pre-drinks, and informal get-togethers.

Craig Chapman, Head of Brand at Global Brands, highlights the strategic opportunity for the trade: “Both Halloween and Bonfire Night remain important seasonal occasions for retailers, bringing together consumers for social gatherings, parties and at-home celebrations. Much like the ‘Big Night In’ trend, we continue to see growing demand as these occasions provide a valuable opportunity for retailers to drive incremental sales by meeting consumer needs for convenient products.”

Vodka-based RTDs are leading category growth, up 18% year-on-year (NIQ). VK outperforms the traditional RTD category with +16% growth in total UK off-trade, retaining its status as the number one RTD brand for students. Shareable multi-packs offer value for group occasions.

Hooch has capitalised on fruit trends with the launch of Hooch Peach, tapping into a peach RTD sub-category now worth £10.8m in the off-trade (up 52.4% year-on-year), backed by a £1.6m multi-channel marketing campaign.

To optimise seasonal sales, Chapman emphasises store placement and cross-category merchandising: “Retailers can take advantage of these occasions by planning ahead and creating strong seasonal displays that encourage larger basket spend by placing drinks alongside complementary categories such as snacks.”

He adds that focusing on visibility and perceived value remains essential: “Convenience, visibility and value remain the three biggest factors retailers should consider helping maximise sales.”

Halloween and Bonfire Night extend far beyond traditional confectionery sales, offering significant potential across wider grocery categories as consumers embrace “Big Night In” gatherings and fakeaway meals.

Josh Corrigan, Customer Development Director UK at St Pierre Groupe, commenting on behalf of the Baker Street brand, highlights how retailers can broaden their approach: “Retailers should approach Halloween and Bonfire Night as complete shopper occasions rather than focusing solely on traditional seasonal categories.”

Core offerings like Baker Street Burger Buns and Hot Dog Rolls provide a versatile foundation for crowd-pleasing meals, such as burgers and loaded hot dogs, which drive valuable cross-category basket spend across proteins, plant-based alternatives, cheese, sauces, and drinks.

To capture early planning while preparing for spontaneous late purchases, Corrigan advises: “Retailers should begin building displays and communicating their Halloween range around a month before 31 October. Shoppers hosting parties or family gatherings will often plan ahead, so giving the occasion visibility early allows retailers to capture planned purchases while building excitement ahead of Halloween.”

Baker Street’s extended shelf-life proposition offers practical benefits for seasonal merchandising, giving retailers greater confidence to build stock levels while reducing the risk of waste.

On maximising in-store impact, Corrigan emphasises the role of availability and cross-merchandising: “Availability, visibility and cross-category merchandising will be key. Core products such as burger buns and hot dog rolls can anchor the main meal, so an out-of-stock can potentially lead to lost sales across complementary categories too.”

By dual-siting bakery core lines within dedicated seasonal displays alongside party foods and beverages, retailers can create efficient, theatre-led meal solutions that elevate basket spend throughout the autumn season. Bakery represents a significant yet often overlooked category for Halloween and Bonfire Night, as budget-conscious consumers favour elevated at-home dining over eating out.

Rachel Wells, Commercial Director at St Pierre Groupe, commenting on behalf of the St Pierre brand, highlights how premium options drive basket spend: “The opportunity is being shaped by affordable indulgence. Consumers are increasingly choosing at-home celebrations that offer better value than eating out, but they still want the occasion to feel sociable, enjoyable and more elevated than an everyday meal.”

With special or treat-led midweek dinners up 10% year-on-year, products like pre-sliced St Pierre Brioche Buns and Brioche Hot Dog Rolls allow consumers to upgrade simple burgers and hot dogs into restaurant-inspired meals. Holding position as the UK’s number one savoury brioche brand, St Pierre offers established core lines that fit seasonal entertaining without the residual-stock risk associated with heavily themed items. Because Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026, celebrations will likely span the entire weekend, driving both planned gatherings and last-minute missions.

On timing and range management, Wells advises: “Retailers should plan well in advance and make sure core lines are available before seasonal demand begins to build. Non-perishable and longer-life products can be introduced early, while visibility and stockholding should increase as Halloween approaches and be maintained through Bonfire Night.”

To maximise seasonal revenue, retailers should utilise secondary sitings and clear meal-solution messaging to link brioche rolls with chilled meats, plant-based alternatives, condiments, snacks, and drinks.

Recommending a balanced merchandising strategy, Wells adds: “A balance of value and quality is important. Offering clear ‘good, better, best’ choices enables retailers to cater to different budgets while maintaining opportunities for shoppers to trade up.”

As UK consumers increasingly seek elevated, affordable at-home dining during seasonal events, bakery serves as a crucial foundation for crowd-pleasing meals. The ambient rolls category is currently valued at £637.6m (Kantar) and experiences a notable average unit sales uplift of 7% over the Halloween and Bonfire Night trading period.

Highlighting the seasonal demand for premium formats, Stephen Jones, UK Sales Director at Grupo Bimbo UK, commenting on behalf of the New York Bakery Co. (NYB) brand, notes: “Halloween and Bonfire Night provide retailers with an opportunity to tap into the growing appetite for elevated at-home occasions, as shoppers look for simple ways to make meals shared with friends and family feel more special.”

To capitalise on this trend, New York Bakery Co. expanded its portfolio with Legendary Burger Buns, introducing the foodservice-inspired potato bun format to UK retail. The pre-sliced, HFSS-compliant buns deliver a soft, fluffy texture designed to lock in flavour and support generous fillings. Consumer research underscores a strong willingness to trade up, with 73% of UK shoppers willing to pay more for a burger served in a gourmet bun (Restaurant Industry), alongside a 33% increase in potato bun menu penetration over the past four years (Baking Business).

On the strategic value of premiumisation, Jones highlights: “Rather than cutting back entirely, shoppers are looking for ways to make everyday meals feel more special, creating an opportunity for products that offer a clear point of difference through texture, flavour or format.”

To maximise seasonal sales, Jones advises retailers to focus on cross-category merchandising and clear shelf messaging: “Secondary siting alongside burgers and complementary meal ingredients can help inspire usage and increase basket spend.”

Integrated PR, targeted media campaigns, and seasonal recipe inspiration, such as stacked Bonfire Night burgers and pulled pork buns, will support the launch throughout autumn.

Adam Lyons, Founder of VFC Foods and Brand Custodian of Meatless Farm, comments: “Halloween and Bonfire Night continue to be important occasions for retailers, driven by consumers looking to create comforting, sociable meals at home. As household budgets remain under pressure, many shoppers are choosing to entertain at home rather than eat out, creating opportunities across chilled meal solutions, sharing foods and seasonal comfort dishes.”

These occasions also present a valuable opportunity for the plant-based category. They’re no longer just about catering for vegans—they’re about bringing people together. Mixed households and groups increasingly expect inclusive menus, making quality plant-based products a natural addition alongside traditional favourites.

“More broadly, we believe the category is entering an exciting new phase,” adds Lyons. “Growth is no longer being driven by endless innovation or range expansion, but by making plant-based more relevant to everyday occasions. Seasonal events like Halloween and Bonfire Night are exactly the kind of occasions that can help unlock that next stage of category growth.

“Retailers should focus on categories that deliver warmth, familiarity and versatility. Sausages, burgers, mince and convenient meal solutions all perform well because they form the basis of comforting dishes that shoppers know and love,” suggests Lyons.

“Rather than treating plant-based as a standalone category, retailers should merchandise it around meal occasions. The biggest opportunity lies with flexitarian shoppers who simply want another delicious option for family favourites like chilli, hot dogs, burgers or loaded fries.”

Research shows there is significant headroom to grow the category by unlocking more occasions and making plant-based feel familiar, accessible and relevant, rather than niche.

Republic Technologies, the £137m (IRI) tobacco accessories supplier, markets and distributes the UK’s biggest range of matches and lighters. The products include household favourites such as Cook’s Matches, Bryant & May Extra Long, Swan Vestas, Ship, Zig-Zag and Lumière lighters.

A range of Cook’s branded Firelighters joined the portfolio last year too, driving Republic Technologies to the forefront as the supplier of choice for retailers looking to grow in the tobacco accessories and household sectors.

“It’s important for retailers to note that matches and lighters are worth a combined £76m (IRI) within the total tobacco accessories category, presenting a huge opportunity for retailers to grow and tap into these sales,” comments Gavin Anderson, Sales Director at Republic Technologies UK.

“Republic Technologies’ range of matches and lighters are particularly well positioned for autumn and winter trading, when consumers naturally spend more on candles, cosy home accessories and entertaining at events such as Halloween, Bonfire night and Diwali.”

However, one of the biggest advantages for retailers is the versatility of the range. Republic Technologies’ brands can work across multiple areas of the store, including: household fixtures, seasonal displays, till-point impulse zones, tobacco gantries and premium gifting sections.

The compact packaging also makes them easy to site, requiring reduced shelf space or even allowing retailers to utilise free standing strips to float alongside stocked shelves and to cross merchandise against similar items such as, candles or pumpkins at Halloween.

Cook’s Matches, the iconic household matches brand, is currently experiencing greater on shelf stand out due to its ongoing partnership with chef Daniel Clifford, which features on-pack seasonal recipes and online giveaways.

The partnership, which is currently in its second year, is highlighting Cook’s Matches’ usage occasions and giving back to its shoppers by offering Michelin Star worthy recipes and cooking techniques, for them to recreate at home.

Similarly, Bryant & May, the ‘extra-long’ safety matches brand known for BBQ stoves and campfires, last year partnered with chef Chris Mackett, for an on-pack collaboration.

The partnership offers consumers similar incentives to Cook’s, driving awareness of the usage occasions and offering more of a reason to purchase.

Lumière, the stylish household lighters brand from Republic Technologies UK, offers a point of difference for retailers. Its sleek and modern design, which comes in a range of metallic colour ways, is a standout lighter that compliments home interiors, at an accessible price point.
