coolair_30th_anniversary_002_jpgAs the country strives to climb out of recession and we face an election in the coming months, one company celebrated an historic date in February when it reached 30 years of operation and growth in the air conditioning industry.

One of the UK’s leading air conditioning companies, Coolair Equipment Ltd marked its 30th anniversary on 13 February and is looking to continue its success story by expanding into new fields.

The company’s growth since it was founded in 1980 has been based on a strong engineering and design capability, which has seen Coolair survive and prosper through the boom and bust periods of the last three decades.

“Since day one, we have focused on delivering air conditioning solutions that meet our customers’ needs and supported them with the best engineers and designers available,” explains Managing Director, Nick Parker, one of the original three founders of Coolair.

“Our success has been built slowly and steadily over the last three decades and this has been based on continually finding, training and keeping the best staff to give customers the highest levels of service possible, whilst we also look to bring on the next generation.”

Although Coolair remains a multi-distributor, it is now Mitsubishi Electric’s largest customer with around 70 per cent of its air conditioning sales involving equipment from this manufacturer. Coolair also became a Mitsubishi Electric Business Solutions Provider in 2005 and this enables the company to offer customers up to 5 years warranty on Mitsubishi Electric equipment.

Since its origins in a small office in a terraced house in Manchester, Coolair has grown into a nationwide company with two large divisions dealing with the design and installation of air conditioning systems and, since 1997, the service and maintenance of systems with Coolair Services Limited.

Coolair sales were £170,000 in its first year and overall turnover is now averaging £25m per annum, with the company proud of its position as the strongest, most well-regarded air conditioning installation company in the UK.

From its purpose-built headquarters of Coolair House in Dukinfield, the company’s operations now involve satellite offices in Cannock and Maidstone, and the number of staff has grown from the original four to include 36 office-based staff, 48 permanent engineers and an equal number of self-employed engineers.

“We are now looking to set up a dedicated department to support larger building projects as well as increasing our reach by installing the Ecodan residential heating system,” adds Parker, who feels that the market is now right for heat pumps to realise their potential for energy saving heating.

“The construction industry has changed dramatically over the last three decades and we have seen energy efficiency emerge as the driving force for all buildings,” comments Parker. “This is only going to increase and we believe that the air conditioning industry is leading the way with products that deliver heating, cooling and ventilation in the most energy efficient ways possible. Properly designing, installing and supporting those products is also crucial in getting the most energy efficient buildings and that is where we come in,” he ends.
