marmiteA unique sleeve from CCL Decorative Sleeves has proved the perfect way to create a cricket ball design for the iconic Marmite jar.

A new limited edition Marmite recipe has been developed, containing the same yeast used in Marston’s Pedigree beer, in order to create a special version of the famous spread that celebrates both the forthcoming Ashes Series and Marston’s position as the official beer of English cricket.

Sleeving was the only solution that could effectively replicate a cricket ball on such a challenging jar shape.  Key to the success of the project has been the appropriate choice of material by CCL Decorative Sleeves. The PET film selected is able to fit tightly around the curves of the jar while being robust enough to remain in good condition and resist scuffing when on the glass container. The sleeve is shrunk onto the jar within very tight tolerances to allow the graphics to be accurately centred.

The sleeve is gravure printed in seven colours. The traditional cricket ball red is complemented by high gloss gold text and images including replicating the ball seam on the sides of the jar.

“Over the years Marmite has joined forces with a number of top brands and we are delighted to continue this with the Marston’s Pedigree recipe, which also celebrates one of the highlights of the cricketing calendar,” comments Cheryl Calverley, Marketing Manager, Marmite.

“The Marmite jar has always been distinctive and instantly recognisable, and the challenge was to maintain this familiarity while creating an appropriate pack design for the occasion. The sleeve from CCL Decorative Sleeves has provided the perfect solution and we are delighted with the result and, in particular, the impact it creates on shelf.”
