jake-burger-classic-bloody-mary-winnerThe UK’s finest mixologists competed for first place in the Tabasco® British Bloody Mary Challenge 2010 on 22nd November at HIX Restaurant & Champagne Bar, Selfridges. Competitors battled it out for the British title in two rounds, shaking up a ‘Classic Bloody Mary’ in round one, and an ‘Alternative Bloody Mary’ in round two. The panel of highly acclaimed professional judges – Mark Hix, Tom Parker-Bowles, Nick Strangeway and Charles Campion – were impressed by the skill, flair and flavour displayed throughout the evening.

Representing the legendary bar Portobello Star, Jake Burger scooped first place in the ‘Classic Bloody Mary’ round.  Restricted to using basic ingredients provided by the organisers, Jake impressed the judges with his perfect blend of spices, seasoning and flavour to create the ultimate ‘Classic Bloody Mary’ cocktail.

There was no stopping Pete Jeary, aka ‘Shaky Pete’ of Hawksmoor who showed that his imagination had no bounds. ‘Shaky Pete’ won first place in the ‘Alternative Bloody Mary’ round for his creative skill in both complementing and enhancing the two core flavours of a Bloody Mary cocktail – tomato and Tabasco® Pepper Sauce. Both Jake and ‘Shaky Pete’ win a fabulous three day trip to New Orleans, cocktail capital of America and home of the world famous Tabasco® Pepper Sauce.

Guests turned out in great numbers to cheer on the UK’s finest mixologists, whilst enjoying a Bloody Mary or two for themselves. Among those attending the event were Brian Turner, Vanessa Feltz and Nancy Lam.
