Knocking out the judges with its punch and depth of fragrance, Santa Maria’s Tellicherry Black Pepper has won a 2021 Great Taste Award. Organised by The Guild of Fine Food, the awards highlight outstanding specialty and artisan from food and beverage producers worldwide. And with its judging panel of 500 chefs, buyers, food writers and retailers, entrants are put to the test for quality and flavour.
Responsibly sourced from Kerala, India, Tellicherry special extra bold is the finest black pepper found in the region. Piper Nigrum is a beautiful climbing vine that originates from the jungles of the Malabar Coast. The plant has round berry-like fruits from which green, black and white peppercorns are harvested. And the large berries have a delightfully fruity aromatic power, which add a particularly fine flavour.
Quotes from the Great Taste Awards judges include:
“Certainly, an impactful peppercorn!”
“We sampled this ground and also crunched a whole berry – the level of heat is high, the fruitiness pleasant.”
“A sound pepper with good heat, fruitiness and persistence.”
“When ground the pepper was very fragrant and packed a punch.”
“It has depth of fragrance which is distinctive, and is powerful in taste for any seasoning occasion.”
Hannah Hurling, Marketing Activations Manager UK & Ireland Paulig says,
“At Santa Maria, we’re strong believers in sourcing the best possible ingredients for our customers – we never compromise on taste. We’re delighted that the industry has recognised this pursuit for perfection by giving us this prestigious award for our Tellicherry Black Pepper.”
Available in 70g adjustable grinders, Santa Maria Tellicherry Black Pepper can be found at Sainsbury and Tesco supermarkets.
