Since 1998, Combilift has been transforming the material handling industry by helping businesses improve safety, productivity, and storage optimisation in their operations. The Irish manufacturer invests 6% of its revenue each year in research and development, which keeps the company at the forefront of product innovation. One of their latest launches is the Combi-AGT, making it the company’s first autonomous product.
This electric model is the world’s first autonomous sideloader with a manual operation option. The Combi-AGT utilises the latest smart technology to fulfil customer demands for driverless sideloader capabilities, driven by the need for enhanced safety—reducing personnel presence in aisles, ensuring consistency in handling procedures, and maximising order fulfilment. It also includes a backup manual mode in case of power outages or internet disruptions.
Developed by Combilift’s dedicated automation team, the Combi-AGT is a 4-wheel electric stand-on model designed for handling long loads. It has a lift capacity of 5,000kgs, specifically addressing the requirements of steel service centres and the metal industries, which often deal with long loads.
During the development of the Combi-AGT, Combilift collaborated with Irish Manufacturing Research (IMR) to ensure seamless integration with various client warehouse management systems. Its design is based on the manually operated Combi-GTE model, which has long been popular among service centres due to its efficiency in navigating rail-guided narrow aisles.
The Combi-AGT features laser-based sensors positioned on the chassis, constituting an anti-collision safety system as mandated by the American National Standards Institute. If the machine detects an obstacle or a pedestrian in its path, it automatically slows down and will stop in emergencies. Once the obstacle has cleared the safety sensor area, the machine will resume automatic driving. The enhanced adaptive safety system allows the size of the obstacle detection fields to adjust based on the truck’s steering angle and speed.
