Premier Foods is introducing a new range of 100% plant-based protein pots with Plantastic – a first for the brand, as it moves into the quick meal solution (QMS) category. Available from mid-November, Plantastic Protein Boost pots come in three flavours – Satay Noodles with sweet red pepper, “Bolognese” Pasta in a rich tomato sauce and Cajun Rice with tomato & pepper – and will appeal to a wide range of shoppers looking for a tasty and nutritional plant-based quick meal solution.
As a category, plant-based food is currently valued at £1.79bn1 and is estimated to reach £2bn by 20242. Currently, 47% of people say they are open to trying plant-based products within the snack meals category3, showing huge potential for innovation in the category. However, there is room for improvement with 31% of people believing that plant-based food doesn’t taste as good as non-plant-based4. Plantastic Protein Boost pots are set to overcome this barrier to purchase by delivering great taste.
Health also continues to be high on the agenda for many shoppers, with increased demand for healthier products. However, 50% of people are concerned they will miss out on key nutrients if they follow a plant-based diet5 and 66% of shoppers want more protein from their plant-based quick meals6. Plantastic Protein Boost pots meet these demands as they are high in protein, low in fat, full of veggie pieces and contain no artificial colours or preservatives.
Satay contains 13.1g of protein per pot, Bolognese 12.7g and Cajun 12.9g. Plantastic Protein Boost pots are also non-HFSS compliant, making them a great choice for health-conscious customers.
Hong Sim, brand director for plant-based at Premier Foods said: “At Plantastic our brand mission is to popularise plant-based food by making every experience taste and feel fantastic for everyone. Our great taste and health credentials will bring in those who have not previously shopped in the quick meals category, with 86% of customers surveyed saying they would want to see the Plantastic Protein boost range in Tesco. The range is also available at an accessible price point (MSSP) of £1.29, to encourage new shoppers and drive frequency of purchase.”
Plantastic Protein Boost pots will be available in selected Tesco stores from mid-November, subject to availability, at a MSSP £1.29.
