Sainsbury’s customers in Hanwell, west London will have the chance to try out a brand-new Sainsbury’s Local from today, following the opening of the retailer’s latest store on Uxbridge Road. Colleagues and customers gathered this morning to cut the ribbon and celebrate the launch of the new store.

Conveniently located in Hanwell Town Centre, the 2,451 sq. ft. store will help and serve customers between the hours of 7am and 10pm every day.

Local residents, workers and shoppers will now have the opportunity to pick up a bite to eat from Sainsbury’s delicious selection of sandwiches and ‘food to go’, as well as pick up a hot drink from a self-service Costa coffee. Fresh bread and pastries will be baked in the store every day and it will also stock an excellent range of great value, high quality fresh food, fruit and vegetables, as well as other grocery and household products.

Customers will also be able collect products from the much-loved brands of Argos, Habitat and Tu Clothing, ordered online and delivered via the instore Click and Collect service.

The colleagues that make up the new store team will play an active role in the local community whilst also taking part in Sainsbury’s nationwide charitable programmes and initiatives. For example, through Sainsbury’s partnership with Neighbourly, the new Local will work with local food donation partners to help ensure that any surplus food from the store will go to those who need it most.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Property Director, said: “I’m delighted that we have now opened our second new Sainsbury’s store of the week, this time for customers in west London. We’ve invested in Hanwell to create a fresh, modern store for the town centre, creating new jobs. I hope the local community will enjoy the convenience and choice their new Sainsbury’s Local will bring and I look forward to hearing what they think.”

Kuldip Sandher, Sainsbury’s Hanwell Uxbridge Road Local Store Manager, said: “It’s been great to cut the ribbon and open our new Sainsbury’s Local today after weeks of hard work to get everything ready to welcome customers for the first time. We’re really pleased with our new store and my team and I are excited to help and serve the people of Hanwell for years to come.”

Sainsbury’s recently announced that it is investing a total of £205 million in what is its biggest ever investment in colleague pay, to at least £11 per hour. As of this month, Sainsbury’s hourly retail colleague pay will increase to £11.95 per hour for those working in London. This latest pay rise of £185 million is on top of the £20 million Sainsbury’s invested in October and recognises the extraordinary hard work of colleagues.

The store’s address is Sainsbury’s Local, 144-156 Uxbridge Road, London, W7 3SL
