Sainsbury’s Deptford Station Local, whose name is based on its convenient location opposite the entrance to the southeast London station, has opened its doors to customers this week following two months of work to refurbish the premises. It will now serve and help the local community from 7am to 11pm seven days a week.

As Sainsbury’s newest Local store, it features all the retailer’s latest convenience products, services and technology for customers to make the most of, including:

  • A tasty range of Sainsbury’s high quality, great value fresh food and drinks, fruit and veg and kitchen cupboard essentials, as well as a selection of snacks, stationery and homeware
  • Fresh bread and pastries baked in-store every day
  • A Click & Collect service for customers to order products from Argos, Habitat and Tu Clothing to the store
  • The option to check out using Mobile Pay or SmartShop, which is Sainsbury’s scan, pay and go technology, that is available on customers’ smartphones – making the process faster and more convenient
  • Using SmartShop in conjunction with a Nectar account, which also enables customers to benefit from personalised discounts in the Nectar app that are based on the things people buy the most, known as Your Nectar Prices
  • A self-service Costa Coffee, allowing customers to pick up hot beverages on the go

The colleagues that make up the new store team will play an active role in supporting local and nationwide charity and community initiatives. This includes Sainsbury’s partnership with Neighbourly, through which Sainsbury’s Deptford Station Local will partner with local food donation charities to ensure surplus food from the store goes to those who need it most.

Patrick Dunne, Sainsbury’s Property Director, said: “We’re delighted to have opened another Sainsbury’s Local in southeast London, putting our brilliant products and service on the doorstep of the thousands of shoppers who visit Deptford’s vibrant high street every week. We’re really pleased with our new store and it was great to see our customers queuing from early in the morning to try it for the first time on opening day.”

Tanvir Hussain, Sainsbury’s Deptford Station Local Store Manager, said: “I’d like to thank everyone who has worked together to make our new store a success – we’re already off to a fantastic start. This is a proud moment for me and my new team and we’re looking forward to serving and helping our customers in Deptford for years to come.”
