“I like to learn about all the endangered animals, it makes me sad to know they are in danger but happy that we are helping them” – Leo aged 7.

Today, Forest of Hope – the new eco-friendly, Fairtrade-accredited chocolate brand – is launching with Holland and Barrett.

In the UK alone kids are carrying out 4.3 million acts of rebellion, to bring about positive change, as their frustration with disillusioned adults in charge grows – with more than half of young people (59%) saying that saving the planet should be the top priority in a post Covid-19 world1.

Gen Alpha have a strong moral compass and Forest of Hope is the first eco-friendly surprise chocolate egg that empowers children to make choices that align with their values – whilst also being packed with fun.

Holland and Barrett have been announced as the latest retailer to stock Forest of Hope’s range of nine delicious milk chocolate, nut-free surprise eggs.  Every egg features the design of a different animal native to Sierra Leone’s Gola rainforest – which range from vulnerable to critically endangered.

Forest of Hope works to protect these animals and the forest by growing cocoa in harmony with the Ngoleagorbu Cocoa Farmers’ Union (NGOCFU) – which also creates a livelihood for farmers families and local communities.

The surprise eggs contain over thirty exciting challenge cards to collect, family activity games to complete and educational facts to enable children to learn more about the animals that live in the forest.

Tabitha, aged 8, Forest of Hope fan said: “When I open my Forest of Hope I am so happy. When I see my animal I get in it I show it to everyone and when I eat it…… YUM! I also see my challenge card and I see it and do it right away. I love Forest of Hope!”

Leo, aged 7, Forest of Hope enthusiast said: “I get really excited when I open up the egg to find the animal inside. The chocolate is yummy! I like to learn about all the endangered animals, it makes me sad to know they are in danger but happy that we are helping them.”

Elliot aged 6 Forest of Hope lover, said: “Very tasty chocolate and its kind to animals”.

Tara Stevens, Forest of Hope Brand Manager, said:?“We are so proud to have created a plastic-free, delicious chocolate product, for a new eco-friendly generation. It delivers innovation and education while also supporting cocoa farmers in Sierra Leone. The packaging is 100% recyclable and is utilised with additional activities and facts on the reverse of the carton. It is the perfect treat – just 99p and 90kcal per portion – and we are delighted it’s now being sold at Holland and Barrett”.

Matt Fox, Assistant Category Manager at Holland and Barret, said: “At Holland and Barrett we don’t just want to be good for our customers but for the planet too. Our Plan-it Green project ensures we are environmentally responsible retailers, being the first to abandon plastic bags; the only national retailer to have an entire range of toiletries free from parabens and sodium lauryl sulphates; and today one of the UK’s first retailers to sell a much-welcomed eco-friendly children’s chocolate range. Children deserve to shop ethically and we’re very proud to share this educational chocolate treat with them today”.

Anna Barker, Head of Commercial Partnerships at Fairtrade, said: “It’s clear that many children are – quite rightly – becoming concerned whether the snacks they consume harm people and the planet. Forest of Hope is a much-needed product which empowers children to make happier choices by being fully Fairtrade and forest friendly. Each Forest of Hope milk chocolate surprise egg has been made with Fairtrade cocoa purchased directly from the Ngoleagorbu Cocoa Farmers’ Union who use farming techniques that protect the forest, preserve habitats, and maintain biodiversity. This is essential to the nine Forest of Hope animals within each surprise egg which are either vulnerable, endangered or critically endangered”.

Forest of Hope is available now via the Holland and Barrett website here.
