Mighty Pea, the Leeds-based plant milk producer, has been recognised as one of the UK’s most innovative plant-based brands after being selected to join supermarket giant Tesco’s prestigious Incubator Programme.
As part of this latest cohort of brands, Mighty Pea will look to accelerate the growth of its range of plant-based, dairy-free milk products by accessing a series of workshop and business support and leadership initiatives delivered by Tesco’s product team.
Now in its fourth year, the Tesco Incubator Programme runs for twelve months and partners with small, entrepreneurial brands to “strengthen partnerships to drive growth and to deliver meaningful differentiation” to their customers.
Launched in April 2019 by brothers Tom and Nick Watkins, Mighty Pea secured more than £1m in funding just last year and its product lines are currently available in Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Marks & Spencer, Ocado, WH Smith and Holland & Barrett.
Nick Watkins, Co-founder of Mighty Pea, comments: “Securing a place on Tesco’s Incubator Programme provides the recognition of the developments we have achieved in the past twelve months and a huge boost to everyone at Mighty Pea.
“We have ambitious plans for the future and getting the expert advice and guidance from Tesco’s product team will significantly help our efforts in making these become reality. The rapid growth of Mighty Pea isn’t just an indication of our own evolution as a brand, but the plant based revolution that is being seen throughout the UK and global marketplace.
Tom Watkins, Co-founder of Mighty Pea, adds: “As the expectations of customers continue to evolve so should the products that sit on the supermarket shelves. Partnering with the UK’s biggest supermarket will not only help us to expand our distribution channels and refine our product lines, but it will also enable people to choose a product that benefits themselves as well as the environment they live in with no compromise.
“This is the next step in Mighty Pea’s exciting journey and we cannot wait to see the opportunities this Incubator Programme will present.”
