The event, is the premier manufacturing awards dinner in the region, supported by SEMLEP, the South East Midlands Local Enterprise Partnership.

“Insider recognised some time ago that manufacturers in the UK lack opportunities to showcase their products and the investment they make to keep them competitive at home and in global markets.”

A sentiment echoed by Adande’s Chairman, Nigel Bell, who was buoyed by a visit to the Adande factory on 22 April from the Secretary of State, The Rt Hon Philip Hammond, together with the local Conservative MP for Waveney, Peter Aldous, following an appeal to local government and media to recognise the successes that do exist in the Eastern region and drive innovative patented products to market globally.

The Insider’s Regional Business Editor Philip Cunliffe, who hosted the event, noted that the region excels “in manufacturing, precision engineering and technology”. He said, “Its geography means it is well placed not only to be a major part of the automotive supply chain but also means it excels in sectors such as agriculture, biochemistry and food and drink. So congratulations to all the shortlisted companies [tonight] for all your hard work, creativity and excellence in your field.”

A panel of highly respected judges (detailed below) ran the rule over the region’s manufacturing businesses and deliberated on which of them should be shortlisted.

Jim Davison, Regional Director, EEF

Roy Matthews, Regional Adviser, MAS

Oliver Drury, Director of External Communications Marshalls of Cambridge

Dr Patrick McLaughlin, Course Director for Operational Excellence at Cranfield University

John McManus, Industrial Fellow, Institute for Manufacturing, Cambridge University

In selecting Adande as the regional winners, an Insider Media source said: “Judges were impressed by the fact that the company clearly has innovation running through everything it does. Its commitment to innovation has seen it licensing its patent-protected technologies to global manufacturing partners around the world.”

Others Shortlisted for the Innovation Award were: Paintcraft, PragmatIC

Adande is going forward to the Insider’s National Awards – Made in the UK – to be held on 9 July in Liverpool.

The event was attended by Maria McNevin, Adande’s Marketing Manager, who received the award on behalf of the Company, who stated, “Adande have a great story to tell and people respond positively to it; it’s remarkable that since commercialisation of the current design in 2007, our refrigerated drawers are receiving worldwide award and recognition. Our new Aircell innovation has received positive attention and is currently being trialled at the new Tesco Eco Store in Lincoln.

We are serving a foodservice spectrum from Quick Service Restaurants to Michelin Star restauranteurs in the UK and in territories around the world. Our award winning, patented ‘Hold the Cold’ technology, is known for saving time, space, energy and countering food wastage, enabling the customer to maximise their profit and meet their eco targets.

It’s not surprising that the latest innovation Aircell®, designed to counter ‘cold aisle syndrome’ and improve the retail shopping experience for customers has piqued Insider Media’s interest.

The Manufacturing Company of the Year at last year’s Made in the UK Awards was The Cambridge Satchel Company, who also had a great story to tell from their humble origins, yet is now one of the best known brands in the UK and beyond. We are opening a new chapter with Aircell, and aspire to tell of the characters and events that become part of its success along the way.”
