As the key rum season lifts off and national rum day approaches, Love Drinks has further augmented its eclectic liquid portfolio after taking on the exclusive distribution of the iconic Matusalem rum brand.
Love Drinks will initially be focusing on the Matusalem Gran Reserva 15, the Gran Reserva 23 and the Insólito – the world’s first rose rum to be aged in ex tempranillo casks.

The Ron Matusalem story began over a 150 years ago in 1872. Born in Cuba but now produced in the Dominican Republic, the iconic rum brand was one of the most wanted rums during Cuba’s Golden Age. Set up by Benjamín and Eduardo Camp, along with their partner, Evaristo Álvarez, the company is still owned by the 5th generation of the Alvarez family.
Ron Matusalem’s great contribution to the rum category has been to pioneer the use of the solera system, the antique technique used to make Spanish brandy and sherry wines, in rum aging. The toasting of the barrels and careful rum blending is all controlled by the Master Blender, with the founding family´s heritage and tradition.
The microclimate in Dominican Republic and Santiago de Cuba, where the brand first set up business, are quite similar. A key reason why it was chosen to establish the new Ron Matusalem production facility in 2015.

RON MATUSALEM GRAN RESERVA 15 – 40% abv
The Gran Reserva 15 is Matusalem´s icon, the original, adored for its woody, dry and buttery flavor notes. Its complexity and smoothness are perfect to be enjoyed neat, and it is also ideal for new combinations. It has a low sugar content in rum, only 5.7 grams per litre. Matusalem Gran Reserva 15 is the iconic multi-award winning high premium dark rum.
RON MATUSALEM GRAN RESERVA 23 – 40% abv
Gran Reserva 23 is Matusalem’s highest expression of Solera aged rum. It is adored for its delightful smoothness, well balanced with traces of honey, vanilla and molasses with a spiced and lasting finish. Matusalem Gran Reserva 23, super premium aged rum for sophisticated palates.
RON MATUSALEM INSÓLITO, The World’s First Rosé Aged Rum – 40% abv
Ron Matusalem becomes a pioneer in the rum segment by presenting in 2021 the first rose rum, aged in ex-Tempranillo barrels. Matusalem INSOLITO Wine Cask: a buttery finish with hints of toasted bread and red fruits in harmony with wine tannins’ remnants. it has a pretty pink hue and offers vanilla and light spice on the nose with a tropical fruit-forward palate filled with sweet pineapple and cinnamon.
