Lorien Engineering Solutions has completed a major new build development for Cheshire-based Frank Roberts & Sons, one of the UK’s leading independent bakeries.

Frank-Roberts-&-Sons-bakery-2The 3,000 square metre green field facility produces 7,000 loaves per hour.

Burton based Lorien was appointed designer and contract administrator for the landmark bakery, handling all aspects of the project from planning and building design through to utilities infrastructure and QS management. The contractor was John Sisk and Son Limited.

It is the latest in a series of major investment projects that Lorien has managed for the Northwich based family business over the last six years as it cements its reputation as a leading independent bakery, supplying major multiples around the UK.

Previous investments managed and designed by Lorien include a multi-million pound four-phase project which added 3,000 square metres of floor space to the firm’s manufacturing base, enabling it to make a step change in its distribution facility and extend the product range.

Established in 1887, the Frank Roberts Group comprises three main business divisions, the Northwich site being home to two of them – Roberts Bakery and “Little Treats”. In addition Frank Roberts also own and operate Aldred’s The Bakers in Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Lorien’s Phil Colquhoun commented: “We are proud to have a long standing relationship with the team at Frank Roberts, delivering major projects on schedule and on budget. The firm is a fantastic example of a thriving family-run business and this new build development is the strongest indicator yet of just how successful Frank Roberts has become. The significantly increased output that this new factory brings will further cement Frank Roberts’ already strong reputation as a UK market leader.”
