Specialist manufacturer of PC-based touchscreens and point-of-sale hardware to the retail industry, J2 Retail Systems, has launched its next-generation integrated touchscreen computer. The company maintains that its new J2 225 Compact is one of the world’s smallest POS terminals.
Explains Moray Boyd, J2’s managing director: “In retail, we’re very much aware that space equates to cost. We’ve designed our new J2 225 Compact with a unique swing arm base that results in a very small footprint, which makes it particularly attractive to users. Plus this terminal delivers great performance at a very competitive price. Early reaction indicates it’s going to be a real winner!”
The J2 225 Compact uses the latest industrial-quality 14” LED backlit fold-flat touchscreen (16:9 wide aspect) that allows for a smaller footprint yet displays more on-screen data. A True Flat Resistive (TFR) touchscreen is provided as standard, with the option of a Projected Capacitive Touch (PCT) screen for multi-touch and gesturing capabilities.
For the first time, J2 is offering a terminal with a choice of snap-on coloured bezels and cable cases, ideal for clients keen to create a fully-branded environment. “Users are increasingly factoring into their buying decisions how well POS terminals look in their setting. They tell us that J2 terminals add a touch of professionalism to the point-of-sale and they like their styling and neatness. The ability to blend these units into their environment by colour-coding is a real plus,” continues Boyd.
The J2 225 Compact has many attributes that make it suitable for any POS environment, from the most sophisticated to the harshest. In common with other J2 terminals, the J2 225 comes with J2’s pioneering ‘all in the head’ design. It offers a range of adjustable heights and viewing angles and can be counter top-, wall- or pole-mounted using the standard VESA mount. Its convection-cooled fanless construction means it is unaffected by high temperatures, grease, dust or sea air.
The J2 225 Compact utilises the latest Intel Atom dual core Cedarview processor, combined with the Intel NM10 chipset to provide higher speeds using less power. This new terminal comes with 2GB of memory, and with both hard drives (HDD) and Solid State drives (SSD) as standard, in a wide range of capacities. Both drive types are ‘quick-access’, designed for ease of maintenance and user upgrade, factors which increase client independence and contribute to a low cost of ownership.
Due to its reduced size and weight and the fact that it is uniquely designed to be folded flat, the J2 225’s shipping carton is no bigger than an average-sized notebook, which helps make this terminal extremely cost-effective.
Concludes Moray Boyd: “Reliability is right at the heart of our approach to design. The new J2 225 Compact articulates our mission to manufacture truly innovative POS terminals that offer market-leading reliability and reduced cost of ownership through the use of emerging but proven technologies”.
