Chinese sauce company Lee Kum Kee is launching four new sauces into Sainsbury’s in March 2022. The new sauces include Chu Hou Paste (Chinese Five-Spice Style), Satay Sauce, Sichuan Style Hot & Spicy Stir-Fry Sauce, and Oriental Sesame Soy Sauce. The new range brings genuine Chinese flavours to UK consumers to easily enhance home cooking.

The Chu Hou Paste (Chinese Five Spice Sauce) is made from a blend of soybean, sesame paste, spices, and fermented soybean curd. It has no added preservatives and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans. The sauce is a classic cooking paste for the Hong Kong signature dish, Chu Hou Braised Beef dish, which is popular in restaurants and when cooked at home. It can be used with beef stews, as well as stir-fried beef or BBQ pork ribs and is ideal for consumers looking for an alternative to Hoisin Sauce.

Lee Kum Kee’s Satay Sauce has a spicy rich peanut flavour with hints of sweet coconut. This versatile sauce works across many cooking methods including marinating and dipping, as well as barbequing – offering consumers a multipurpose addition to their store cupboard. This satay sauce can be used directly as a dressing for Asian satays (Malaysian and Indonesian style meat skewers) and kebabs.

The new Sichuan Style Hot & Spicy Stir-Fry Sauce is a convenient wok sauce made with chilli and Sichuan pepper providing a spicy fragrant taste. There is no added MSG, colourings or preservatives and is also suitable for vegetarians and vegans. The consumer demand for spicier condiments continues to grow and this authentic Sichuan flavour will appeal to those wanting to explore the new flavours that Chinese regional cuisine offers including the unique mouth numbing sensation of Sichuan.

The final new line to launch is the Oriental Sesame Soy Sauce, a unique blend of light soy sauce, aged vinegar, garlic, chilli and sesame oil. This savoury dressing is aromatic, mild and tangy, adding depth to dishes. It can be used as a unique salad dressing or to drizzle generously onto noodles.  The Oriental Sesame Soy Sauce joins the Drizzle and Dip range, Hot Chilli Soy Sauce, Sweet Soy Sauce and Seasoned Rice Vinegar that launched in August 2021, which allows consumers to customise dishes at the table to add a little more zing to their meals.

Maria Chong, Managing Director of Lee Kum Kee Europe says: “The pandemic has led to consumers having a growing desire to experiment further with world flavours in their home cooking. We identified areas where we could encourage consumers to try something new, building on the most popular authentic flavours we already offer. These sauces provide authentic top-quality Chinese sauces that are easy to use so can make everyday meals more exciting.’’
