With pallet volumes 10% higher in the UK in 2022 than pre-pandemic levels and still growing, there’s no denying that the covid-19 fuelled ecommerce boom played a direct role in driving growth for the pallets market. Compounded with growing environmental concerns, the introduction of the Plastic Packaging Tax, and the upcoming ban on certain single-use plastics, there has been a real focus on offering more and more sustainable options in the packaging industry.

In light of these driving forces, UK pallet specialist, Kite Packaging, recently expanded their pallet range to offer eco-friendly timber, presswood, nestable and rackable plastic varieties.

The carbon neutral company’s nestable and rackable pallets are ideal for export, made using 100% recycled plastic and can be recycled once they have served their purpose. Thus, these new pallets aid responsible disposal whilst feeding a circular economy which limits the creation of new plastics. They are a durable, lightweight and cheaper alternative to wooden pallets which, despite being lower in cost, provide a long-lasting solution for palletising goods. Also stackable, these pallets help to conserve space when in storage and transit.

Similarly, Kite’s rackable plastic pallets are perfect for use with warehouse racking, making palletising and organising goods a hassle-free job. Made from re-granulated HDPE, these rackable pallets are durable and perfect for heavy-duty use. Their rounded edges reduce the risk of damage during handling, preserving them for long-term use and reducing any spend on pallet replacements. Kite offer rackable and nestable pallets in a variety of sizes following their rise in popularity due to being easy to clean, safe and hygienic along with the above.

Also in the range are ISPM15 compliant timber pallets made from strong timber to provide the integral strength for reuse, helping to conserve a business’s financial resources as well as earth’s natural ones. The timber is sourced from sustainably managed resources.

Kite’s presswood pallets are made by pressing saw dust and recycled wood chips into shape under high pressure and temperatures and, thus, are ISPM15 compliant thanks to their manufacturing process. The raw materials are 100% PEFC certified, ensuring sustainable forest management with no traces of plastic. These are also nestable, conserving space, with round edges for easy application of shrink and pallet wrap.
