Smurfit Kappa Cor-Trade the corrugated sheet manufacturer and supplier report that its new packaging board, launched in October 2014, is proving itself as a realistic alternative to a solid board, for litho printers.

Up until now, litho printers have had to be conservative when choosing substrates for corrugated cartons and packaging, preferring litho lamination where price permits. New KF Lite from Smurfit Kappa Cor-Trade offers all the benefits of printing onto a corrugated board with none of the usual additional costs.

At 750 microns, KF Lite can fulfil all customer expectations, with the offer of high quality offset printing with tight registration and finer screens for better detail and colour fidelity with none of the set-up costs associated with preprint or litho laminated corrugated board.

This makes KF Lite the perfect solution for lower volumes of high-quality packaging, a requirement for many of today’s smaller manufacturers supplying specialist and artisan products in the retail supply chain. With its inherent performance attributes, lightweight, slim caliper, strong crush resistance and superior print surface KF Lite is ideal for packaging where a quick turnaround is required.

With Smurfit Kappa Cor-Trade’s extensive experience of producing ‘Norboard’ specialist graphical boards KF Lite benefits from additional USPs including its ability to incorporate fluid curves, alongside or instead of hard folds. Die cuts allow windows and apertures without the structural loss experienced on traditional solid carton boards.

Richard Revell, technical sales manager at Smurfit Kappa Cor-Trade comments: “Speed is of the essence in today’s world, from designers working at computer speed to retailers changing branding requirements at the last minute. Litho printers can no longer be the sticking point in the supply chain. KF Lite now offers true litho speed corrugated printing, in short or long runs. No matter the requirement, KF Lite does not take any longer to set up and runs at full litho speeds from beginning to end.”

In line with all Smurfit Kappa products, sustainability and a low carbon footprint are designed in from the outset. KF Lite’s slimmer caliper means more products per vehicle movement, to and from the print plant and when printed with environmentally friendly inks and glues, it is 100% recyclable through the normal recovery stream. KF Lite is manufactured from FSC® Certified material.

Reflecting the importance of innovation and the link between packaging substrates and new technology, Smurfit Kappa Cor-Trade will be showing KF Lite on its stand, K34 at Sign & Digital UK, 24-26th March 2015, NEC, Birmingham.

KartonFlute Lite is 750 microns and 340gsm.

KartonFlute Standard is 800 microns and 370gsm.

KartonFlute Lux is 850 microns and 435gsm.
