Aldi will be supporting charities across the UK during the upcoming school summer holidays by donating more than 700,000 meals. The supermarket is pairing its stores up with local charities, foodbanks and community groups via community giving platform Neighbourly to donate surplus food, with at least half of the donations going to causes that support children. Since the partnership with Neighbourly began in 2019, Aldi’s UK stores have already donated more than 25 million meals to over 3,600 local causes.
Tesco has made it easier than ever for shoppers to give a helping hand to food banks and charities feeding people in their local community. The Tesco Food Collection took place in every large Tesco store across the UK, with shoppers urged to donate long-life food to support local food banks in the Trussell Trust’s network and thousands of frontline charities supplied by FareShare. Tesco topped up all food donations made during the collection with an extra 20% cash donation to support the two charities.
More than 4,500 FMCG colleagues from throughout the trade returned to Barcode Festival at Magazine, London on the 7th July, to support GroceryAid and raise a record-breaking amount of over £900,000 for the industry charity. Barcode is the industry’s only music, food and drink festival, allowing over 200 FMCG companies to reward and recognise colleagues, network with customers, plus raise awareness and money for GroceryAid. At the festival, Grocery Trader caught up with Steve Barnes, Chief Executive of GroceryAid, to talk about the vital work the charity does. See our interview.
