Staff at a packaging company in Leeds are celebrating being awarded the AIB International Certification for Food Safety and Hygiene.
Nampak Cartons based in Cockburn Fields in Middleton Grove, achieved the rating of ‘excellent’ in the recent two-day audit carried out by AIB International which assesses company policies, operations, buildings and production facilities for hygiene, food safety and cleanliness.
Stuart Goode, Regional Director UK – Nampak Cartons said: “This is a great achievement and reflects the hard work carried out by our team at Leeds, led by Vera Harrison and Zaman Haroon and with the full backing of the management team. AIB sets extremely stringent standards against which it measures companies being audited. To have achieved an ‘excellent’ rating against these criteria is outstanding.
“We have been working towards this since early 2009 and our success demonstrates Nampak Cartons’ commitment to the food industry and to our customers for whom food safety is paramount. It also shows that we take our position seriously in leading the way and making sure that our products are manufactured to the highest possible standard.
“However this is only the start of our journey; we need to maintain these very high standards and strive to improve on them even further as we go forward”.
Nampak Cartons Leeds site at Cockburn Fields employs 430 people. The plant produces a wide range of high quality folding cartons for a range of markets including frozen and chilled foods, confectionery, food-to-go and spirits and beverages. It also holds ISO9001 Quality Systems Accreditation and BRC/IOP Food Hygiene Standard.
Nampak Cartons’ sister site in Hoogerheide, The Netherlands has run a parallel project and has also achieved the AIB standard.
