- Iceland is rolling out a 1p deal on frozen ready meals this week
- Over half (53%) of Brits plan on cutting out hot dinners or reducing the number of hot meals they eat each week due to the spike in energy prices this winter*
- The ready meal offer, which allows customers to get up to three meals for 1p each, comes just in time for Iceland customers to take up the Big Cooker Switch Off Challenge to help reduce energy bills
- Customers will have to be quick, as this deal is available online from today, Tuesday 1st November, until Friday 4th November
This week, to align with Iceland’s Big Cooker Switch off challenge, there will be nearly a dozen frozen ready meals up for grabs for just 1p each when shopping online. Customers can put up to three of the ready meals in their online basket when doing their weekly shop and use code READY1P at the checkout to receive the discount. The discount is available to orders from £25 and up.
With a wide range of ready meals included in the offer, from Bangers and Mash (£1.00, 400g) with juicy pork sausages, creamy mash and warming gravy, to the hearty and delicious Chicken Stew and Dumplings (£1.00, 500g), there’s a tasty weeknight meal available for the whole family.
There are even fakeaway options for the weekend, with Chicken Curry and Rice (£1.00, 500g) bringing the Indian heat and Sweet & Sour Chicken & Rice (£1.00, 450g) being the perfect dupe for shoppers’ favourite Chinese takeaway item.
This new offer forms part of the supermarket’s recently launched Save Hot Dinners campaign, following research indicating that many people may need to face the decision between heating and eating soon. In fact, Iceland recently found that over half (53%) of Brits plan on either reducing the number of hot dinners they eat or cutting them out completely[1].
The incredibly high running costs of many default cooking appliances could be costing customer more in energy than needed, with the average electric cooker costing 87p per day to run compared to a microwave costing just 8p[2]. As a result, households that switch to more energy efficient cooking appliances such as microwaves, air fryers and slow cookers could save up to £426 per year[3].
To help customers to see the savings they could make for themselves, Iceland is challenging the nation to a ‘Big Cooker Switch Off Challenge’ which started yesterday, Monday 31st October, and sees families across the country ditch their ovens for more energy efficient appliances.
Richard Walker, Managing Director at Iceland, said: “Our customers told us that they really benefitted from our online 1p deal when we ran it with fresh veg, so we’re really pleased to offer it now on frozen ready meals. With research showing that people are giving up hot dinners due to cost-of-living concerns, offering frozen ready meals for 1p means shoppers can add them to their shop and freeze meals until they are needed.”
