Hunter & Gather, the ancestrally inspired lifestyle brand, has launched the UK’s first electrolyte powder that harnesses the unique qualities of monk fruit for a naturally fresh and fruity flavour. RESTORE Electrolytes, featuring a groundbreaking monk fruit infusion powder, is launching nationwide into Ocado, Holland & Barrett and Amazon as well as health food retailers this month (9th April), and is available to buy on the Hunter & Gather website.
Hunter & Gather RESTORE Electrolytes were originally launched in June 2024 but founders Amy Moring and Jeff Webster have been looking to improve the taste of their product following consumer feedback which suggested the electrolytes were too salty.
Comments Amy Moring: “We’re never ones to sit back and rest on our laurels, we’re always looking to improve, update and innovate to make our products the absolute best they can be. We also strongly value the feedback of our loyal tribe of consumers and in terms of the saltiness we felt we owed it to them to update our Restore electrolytes to deliver an improved taste, without the overwhelming saltiness.”
But that presented Amy and Jeff with a huge challenge; how to maintain the optimum formulation of the product at the same time as making it more palatable – but without compromising on their strong beliefs around only using natural ingredients and not using sugar or sweeteners to enhance the taste.
Explains Jeff Webster: “Monk fruit has been cherished for centuries in traditional Chinese medicine and it contains mogrosides, compounds up to 250 times sweeter than sugar, yet free from calories or carbohydrates. This makes it ideal for those managing blood sugar spikes or seeking a gut friendly sugar or artificial sweetener alternative. However, most monk fruit powders contain maltodextrin as a carrier base, which often comes from corn or other grains and ingredients which don’t align with our brand ethos and customer promise.”
Hunter & Gather worked closely with experts to create a unique grain free formulation using acacia fibre as the carrier, a natural and prebiotic ingredient that aligns with the brand’s ethos of clean, natural grain free products. The result is new and improved RESTORE electrolytes containing a groundbreaking monk fruit infusion powder that’s the first of its kind in the UK.
Adds Amy: “We are really proud to bring such leading innovation to the market and to the consumer. We know people are looking for a better alternative than the sugary, artificially sweetened electrolytes that currently exist but also that flavour is an important factor. That’s why we went back to the drawing board and developed the first of its kind electrolytes in the UK using only monk fruit to naturally sweeten. Our new Restore product represents all that we stand for at Hunter & Gather from a lifestyle and innovation perspective, and we are delighted that such a trusted and strategic partner in Holland & Barrett have shown such belief in our brand and this product.”
Niamh McCormack, Commercial Trends & Acceleration Lead at Holland & Barrett, the first retailer to stock the newly relaunched Restore electrolytes, said: “Partnering with Hunter & Gather allows us to bring customers a science-backed hydration solution rooted in natural nutrition. Their commitment to real ingredients and functional wellness aligns perfectly with our mission to deliver innovative products that support optimal health. Together, we’re making it easier than ever for people to hydrate their bodies with the essential nutrients they need to perform their best.”
Interest in electrolytes is booming. The global electrolyte mixes market has exploded and has grown more than ten percent (10.3%) in the last year according to research. That increase may partly be a reflection of an increasingly health-conscious population, but TikTok – where every wellness content creator worth their salt starts their day with an electrolyte boost – may have something to do with it, too.
Hunter & Gather’s newly relaunched RESTORE electrolytes with monk fruit contain no added sugars, stevia or artificial sweeteners, and offer a 100% natural solution for optimal hydration. RESTORE is designed to unlock a multitude of benefits including maintaining optimal nutrition, supporting muscle function and cognitive function and regulating blood pressure. RESTORE is intended as a daily lifestyle supplement, not just for runners, cyclists and gym lovers.
Available in 3 flavours: Lemon & Lime, Mixed Berry and Unflavoured*, RESTORE is available from Holland & Barrett stores nationwide as a 7 pack (£9.99) or 30 pack (£34.99), from www.hunterandgatherfoods.com, Ocado, Amazon and health food sites/stores.
