Lidl’s new distribution centre includes just about every product from the Hormann industrial range including sectional dock doors, telescopic dock levelers, dock bumpers and shelters, high speed folding doors, hinged personnel doors, spiral doors and even drawbridge plates.
There has been significantly increased interest in its DPU doors as they are not only extremely effective at temperature control, they also provide excellent thermal insulation a big factor in reducing carbon emissions. This is also helped by the fact that, unlike standard doors, these close down deep into the front of the dock leveler, below ground level, onto an insulated panel, which creates a strong seal.
Lidl were one of the first company’s in the UK to take advantage of Hörmann’s new HSS 6530 high-speed spiral door. The High Speed Spiral door – HSS – is a High Speed Roller Shutter and is a relatively new product for Hörmann and is now offered with insulated lathes that can be colour coated. It operates as a high speed door with opening speeds up to 3m/s, but also with the advantages of being insulated and offering security when closed, therefore combining a situation where you would normally have two doors, curtain fabric door fast acting in the day, insulated sectional for night security into one door.
The doors are level access to allow side offloading of goods in delivery vehicles. They are operated by an induction loop, as the fork lift drives over it, but to prevent damage and excess wear, rather than close immediately after the fork lift has left the loop area, the HSS door is programmed to stay open for a maximum period of 10 mins, enough time for the fork lift to travel to the vehicle collect a pallet and return or place the pallet in the racking. In this particular application Hormann has included its special light grilles(special photo grilles – see photo) for additional operational safety.
Due partly to the huge success of this project Hörmann has also provided a number of doors and other products for the refurbishment of Lidl’s distribution centre in Livingston, Scotland.
