Celebrity charity campaigner turned entrepreneur Heather Mills has revealed that the former Walkers Crisps factory she took over to manufacture her VBites range of plant-based foods in Peterlee, Co. Durham will open for business in the next three months.
Tapping into the fast-growing vegan food and drink market, Heather Mills took over the Peterlee factory in November and is hiring staff and overseeing the fitout ready for manufacturing of VBites’ new range of vegan sausages and burgers. made from plant-based proteins.
Over 350 jobs were lost when PepsiCo closed the Walkers factory in 2017, but Heather Mills has hired six former workers, including the factory manager. She is hoping eventually to hire around 300 workers for Peterlee.
