Greens Retail launched their 16th store in Albert Street, Dundee. The store becomes Greens’ latest flagship store, epitomising many food retail innovations as well as a new design format for the Scottish-based chain.

Greens of Dundee reopened on Saturday 29th October, following a full refurbishment carried out by Greens’ sister company, The ShopFit Co. The 6000 Sq Ft store is designed around two key shopper missions; Food for Now and Food for Later.

David Bateman, Head of Retail at Greens said “We continue to grow at a tremendous pace, and Greens of Dundee certainly exemplifies the pinnacle in convenience retailing.

The former Co-op store has undergone significant transformation, including a reduction in store size by 2000 Sq Ft to maximise efficiency and profitability whilst still delivering the needs of both convenience as well as trolley shop customers.”

A pre-launch event on Friday 28th October held in the store was a resounding success, with local customers, community, businesses and suppliers invited, all highly commending the design, range and overall offering.

The in-store bakery counters boast a tremendous range of cakes, doughnuts and savouries from fifth generation, local, Royal-warranted family bakers, Fisher & Donaldson as well as Dundee-based 24 hour Clark’s Bakery. In addition, the store features an extensive alcohol offering, including chilled PerfectDraft kegs, sited within a Beer Cave, Coca Cola’s soda fountain offering a zero waste solution, Cook Premium Frozen Foods, AquaVape’s store within a store concept, Skwishee, Pret Express, F’real Milkshakes and iSqueeze fresh orange juice to name a few.

Placing a tremendous focus on Food to Go in addition to the in-store concessions, an extensive hot food offering is available with solutions for breakfast, lunch, dinner and everything in between. This ranges from pizzas to pies and soup to locally-sourced ready meals. A Food to Go station offers customers basic amenities including microwaves, cutlery, boiling and cold, filtered water. Perhaps most striking for customers at first glance is an external window acting as a ‘food to go shopfront,’ allowing a full and live insight to the meal solutions on offer depending on time of day.

The innovation doesn’t stop there as it certainly extends to technological advancements. Veesion’s Artificial Intelligence based video surveillance software monitors consumer behaviour to trigger an alert as soon as it detects suspicious behaviour – already having led to the identification of theft which has allowed swift action.

Harris Aslam, Managing Director at Greens said, “I am exceptionally proud of the phenomenal team we are sculpting at Greens Retail. Greens of Dundee is a very clear example of our mission to pioneer within the convenience sector.

The store embodies a great deal of innovative, albeit scalable concepts which our talented team have worked together to create. Greens of Dundee certainly delivers on our ideology to create food shopping into an enjoyable experience and early feedback and data suggest customers certainly agree.

I would like to extend many thanks to our team, colleagues and suppliers for their clear dedication in delivering such an incredible store.”
