qvc2009 has been a successful year for SSI Schaefer across the globe having recently been named the number one materials handling systems supplier in the world once again by US publication Modern Materials Handling in association with Material Handling Product News.

With US$2.51 billion in revenue, SSI Schaefer retains the top honour for the third consecutive year.

The most significant news for the Group during the past 14 months besides attaining outstanding sales results was the acquisition of systems integrator and software provider Salomon Automation highlighting the group’s leading position in the field of warehouse logistics. Salomon is an independent member company within the Schaefer Group, with unchanged management.

Each year globally, SSI Schaefer has been increasing its market presence – the momentum is especially impressive in the region of Asia Pacific and Middle East where double-digit growth rate has prevailed for the past three years.

To name a few milestones, SSI Schaefer has established its Indian sales office in Mumbai this year, with the new regional headquarters building in Dubai Logistics City about to start construction in order to better serve the expanding Middle Eastern and African markets despite economic uncertainties. A new sales branch office is also on the blueprint for Saudi Arabia.

Bob Jane, UK Business Development Manager, SSI Schaefer, said: “In the UK SSI Schaefer continues to expand its sales side with the recruitment of additional specialist Account Managers including Mike Alibone and Russ Veal and the Schaefer Systems Group continues to deliver total integrated support to each and every customer. Each Systems Group member uses their skills and knowledge of combined standard and automation products to offer the widest range of possible solutions to any company in the market.”

The new UK Maintenance Partnership Programme, offering affordable on-going maintenance and support packages, has improved the service side of the organisation with several large customer sites currently reaping the benefits of Schaefer’s fulltime resident maintenance teams. The company’s recent investment in a new IT infrastructure also ensures customer service response times are maintained and improved upon.

Bob continued: “The successful completion of a series of large high profile projects, including; a new on-site extension for the storage, order-picking and distribution of over 25,000 QVC products, a steel support structure for Partner Logistics that stands over 30 metres high, 144 metres long and 89 metres wide and a fully functioning Automated Order Fulfilment System allowing Office Depot to process over 75,00 order lines over a 12-hour period has elevated SSI Schaefer UK profile to new heights in the market place.”

Looking ahead to 2010, SSI Schaefer has secured a high profile project that involves the design, supply and installation of a bespoke High Rise Narrow Aisle Shelving structure that will stand at 11.5 metres high, providing 3600 bays and over 200,000 liner metres of shelving.

The new purpose built development in Swindon, designed around Schaefer’s storage solution, will house rare books, maps and special materials dating back hundreds of years. In addition a multi-tier structure with over 10,000 special drawers in steel cabinets will also be installed.
