Food and drink professionals can’t afford to miss the two-day event on 19- 20 November at ExCeL London as it showcases new healthy, natural and clean label ingredients, introduces future UK and international brand innovators, highlights future retail trends and turns the spotlight on sustainability and innovative packaging solutions.

In the main exhibition Food Matters Live 2019 hosts the UK’s largest gathering of ingredients companies, showcasing the latest innovations for food, drink, nutraceutical and functional product development. Discover cutting edge ingredient ideas to help solve your NPD challenges, new functional ingredients and a host of clean-label, sugar and calorie reduction solutions.

Innovative Ingredients Live also returns in 2019 with an exciting live theatre programme of events featuring international industry experts and nutritionists and showcasing nutritional science, emerging ingredients and nutraceuticals.

Speakers include Mike Bagshaw, owner and founder of International Taste Solutions, on how new sugar reducing technology can halve sugar content in food and beverage with no impact on flavour or texture. You can also hear how Rebel Chocolate used innovative technology to create the holy grail – healthier chocolate with 50% less sugar and 25% protein than conventional brands.

New from Food Matters Live for 2019 is the Retail Trends live theatre, which brings together the perspectives of retailers, high street food outlets, foodservice providers and manufacturers in a lively series of debates looking at how the industry is responding to the growth of free-from and vegan consumer.

Food Matters Live 2019 has invited industry experts from the UK’s leading companies to give their perspectives. Speakers include Claire Nuttall, founder of The Brand Incubator, David Mulcahy, food development and innovation director, Sodexo, Elen Ormson, partner and health brand manager at Waitrose, Grace Coates, free from buying manager for Asda, Emma Adams, head of technical at Greggs, Caroline Ottoy, food service director at Planet Organic, Claire Richardson, product developer of Plant Kitchen for M&S and Victoria Robertson, senior innovation leader at KFC.

Food Matters Live 2019 has also brought together an inspirational line-up of industry experts, innovators and forward-thinkers to make this year’s packaging seminar programme unmissable. There will be six seminar streams looking into the broader issues facing the global food and drink industry, including debates, case studies and global innovations around sustainable packaging.

Thanks to the Blue Planet effect, the effect of plastics and packaging waste is firmly on the global agenda, and Food Matters Live 2019 has invited speakers from the front runners in the race to create sustainable packaging systems and solutions.

There is a case study from Jimmy’s Iced Coffee, aiming to be plastic-free by 2020 and a talk by Coca-Cola’s Julian Hunt, outlining how the company is recycling its packaging. Hear about the innovative technology developed by Cait Murray, the co-founder of Cuan Tec, which turns waste langoustine shells into recyclable food packaging and Damien Lee, co-founder of Solublue, which has developed biodegradable cups and straws that start to decompose when thrown away.

In parallel with Food Matters Live, the new Food Matters Summit in ExCeL’s Platinum Suite, will bring together over 100 international speakers to lead a debate on the key issues for the global food and drink sector and celebrate the top 30 disruptors rethinking the way we source, produce, package and distribute food to the race to develop alternative proteins as more people reduce their meat intake

Confirmed speakers include Dr Sandhya Sriram, co-founder and CEO of Shiok Meats, explaining how her company grows sustainable seafood and meat using stem cells. Patrick Holden, founder and chief executive of the Sustainable Food Trust will discuss how vegans are the ultimate disruptors and the future for plant-based food businesses. Michael La Cour, MD of IKEA Food Services AB will join a debate exploring how the food and drink sector can embrace new practices and technologies to eliminate food waste and Darren O’Sullivan, director of Plant Protein, Kerry Europe & Russia will examine the power of alternative proteins from a range of new options.
