faroe-sixFaroe Seafood has significantly revamped its UK sales office as a response to very major changes in the parent company’s operations in the Faroe islands where there has been a large increase in both company fish landings and in production capacity.

Torkil Davidsen has been named as Head of Operations for the UK, succeeding Birgir Kass, who has taken up a senior sales position at head office.

Mr. Davidsen has been based at the Grimsby office in a sales and logistics role for four years and prior to that worked for the company in the Faroe islands in various roles for eight years.

New to Faroe Seafood UK is Nigel Taylor, who has been appointed Head of Frozen Fish Sales.

Mr. Taylor is managing the established Booker and Makro accounts, whilst commencing the development of new business with frozen food wholesalers, catering buying groups and retailers. This will cover whole fish, fillets, portions, steaks, cubes and mince in cartons and bags, bulk blocks, frozen and sea, breaded, smoked, dried and salted fish.

Mr. Taylor has 18 years experience in the fish industry, initially in quality assurance and technical roles before moving in to senior management and then purchasing jobs. As both a consultant and then senior buyer, he was connected with Cumbrian Seafoods, one of the UK’s largest fish companies, for five years.

Promoted at Faroe Seafood UK is Amy Salisbury, who has taken up the new position of Sales Coordinator. She joined the company 18 months ago in an accounts role.

Both appointments are a response to increased landings on the islands where Faroe Seafood has generated huge increases in its processing capacity.

Several factories have moved to two-shift production, improving both efficiency and cost effectiveness.

Eight pair trawlers now supply 70% of factory needs. In the first four months of 2009, 13,800 tonnes of fish were landed, 3,000 more than in 2008 and 7,500 tonnes more than in 2007, and handled by the company’s own landing stage.

Faroe Seafood is currently annually processing 28,000 tonnes of coley, 4,000 tonnes of wild cod (farmed cod will shortly become a new market segment), 2,000 tonnes of haddock, 1,000 tonnes of ling and 1,000 tonnes of other species.
