Quorn teamed up with Liverpool Football Club to help combat food poverty by matching fan food donations from the Merseyside Derby

  • Quorn and Liverpool FC teamed up to match all foodbank donations made by fans at Anfield, both red and blue, on 24th April derby day
  • 809kg of donations were received from fans on match day, meaning the total provided by Quorn’s Double The Donations initiative is a massive 1617kg
  • Launching the initiative ahead of the match, Virgil van Dijk, Joël Matip and Kostas Tsimikas surprised two lifelong Liverpool FC fans and foodbank volunteers, Janet and Steve Davies, to thank them for their incredible work

Quorn and Liverpool FC recently partnered on an initiative close to the club and community’s heart, Double The Donations, supporting the North Liverpool Foodbank on derby day.

A huge 1617kg worth of food donations will be made as a result of Quorn matching all donations made from fans, both red and blue.

‘Double The Donations’ launched in partnership with Fans Supporting Foodbanks, which started with just three fans collecting tins of food on match days and now supplies a massive 25% of all donations to North Liverpool Foodbank.

Gill Riley, Marketing Director at Quorn Foods, said: “As sustainable protein partner of Liverpool FC, we’ve been inspired by the incredible fans who have shown such generosity in support of their local community. We’re also honoured to have been able to join Liverpool FC in rewarding volunteers at North Liverpool Foodbank and have been overwhelmed by the generosity of the fans on derby day.

“We’re passionate about helping tackle the growing issue of food poverty, which we know affects so many families across the country, and we’re happy to be playing a small role in Fans Supporting Foodbanks’ crucial work.”

Two incredible volunteers for North Liverpool Foodbank also experienced an emotional surprise from Quorn and Liverpool Football Club at Liverpool’s AXA Training Centre in Kirkby.

Steve and Janet Davies are integral to the foodbank running smoothly. They have volunteered for the past four years at the North Liverpool Foodbank, helping local residents struggling for food supplies. Steve and Janet were asked to collect food donations from the AXA Training Centre, but were stopped in their tracks when Virgil van Dijk, Joël Matip and Kostas Tsimikas personally delivered donations from Quorn.

The Liverpool FC players also wanted to thank Steve and Janet for all the work they do in the local community, alongside other volunteers at the North Liverpool Foodbank.

The ‘Double The Donations’ initiative from Quorn was welcomed by the co-founders of Fans Supporting Foodbanks, Ian Byrne MP and Dave Kelly who were also at AXA Training Centre to raise awareness for the campaign. Ian and Dave’s inspirational community initiative has grown from a wheelie bin full of food donations on match days, to a ton of food collected at every first team game played at Anfield.

North Liverpool Foodbank fed over 10,000 people last year, collecting food in excess of 90,000 KG in weight. It’s a lifeline to help the local community and match day donations are crucial to the community.
