Co-op launched its newest last week in Bapchild, near Sittingbourne, and is welcoming members and customers into the purpose built new convenience store

The convenience store opens in the new Spring Acres residential development and has a focus on being ‘a community hub and focal point at the heart of local life’.

Bapchild’s new Co-op opens between 6am-10pm daily, and includes a range of added services including an InPost parcel locker, Costa Coffee Express Machine, hot food, payment services via PayPoint and the online home delivery of groceries through Just Eat, Uber Eats and Deliveroo – where orders are picked fresh in the local store and delivered quickly and conveniently in the local community.

The added services sit alongside an extensive range of fresh and chilled produce, in-store bakery, food-to-go and meal deals; Fairtrade products, pizzas, flowers; ready meals, award winning wines and everyday essentials.

Customer car parking is available, and a soft plastic recycling facility enables shoppers to return and recycle materials such as crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches.

Member price savings create additional value for Co-op’s member-owners, with personalised offers for members and lower prices on the products shoppers buy most.

Supporting UK farmers, all of Co-op’s fresh meat – including in its ready meals, pies and sandwiches – is 100% British.

Paul Hoskins, Co-op Area Operations Manager, said: “The whole team is delighted to have the opportunity to launch Co-op’s newest store. We are proud to become part of the local community, and we are committed to ensuring that the store is a community hub and part of local life. The store looks great, and has a range of added services to serve and support the community, conveniently. We pride ourselves on being able to deliver the quality, choice and value which can be enjoyed by everyone, and are really looking forward to welcoming customers into their new local Co-op.”

Spring Acres is a thriving new community of mainly affordable homes, thanks to a partnership between Hyde and Chartway Group. Jaime Buckley, Hyde’s Development Director, added: “We’re delighted to be welcoming Co-op to our thriving Spring Acres community. As a focal point to the development, we hope that Co-op’s successful new store will be well supported by both our residents and the wider community. Hyde prides itself on creating homes that are both sustainable and convenient, and the store will certainly help to underpin our aspirations of providing homes in places where people want to live.”

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with its history dating back 180 years. Its 6.2m members own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation.
