Ford Farm is celebrating the overwhelming success of its English Cheese Selection Pack launched to the retail trade in November last year.

Costco-Multi-pack[2]

The box, designed and constructed by Atlas Packaging was the recipient of a Gold Medal for Best Packaging at the prestigious British Cheese Awards last May for its innovative and eye-catching design. As such, Ford Farm was already primed for a major success story.

But, with several thousand boxes sold over the Christmas period and thousands more on order, no-one quite anticipated how successful it would be.

The box is printed with a historical map of Wessex and incorporates a tray which accommodates six English cheese varieties. The choice includes a wedge of West Country Farmhouse Cheddar, waxed Double Gloucester and Wensleydale truckles, Cheddar with Chilli & Lime, oak-smoked Dorset Red and a wedge of Red Leicester.

According to Emma Martin, Sales Manager at Ford Farm and the brains behind the new box design: ‘This pack certainly seems to have hit the spot with the British buying public.. It’s not only the eye catching design of the pack that precipitated sales. It was clearly also the variety and presentation of the cheese selection which offered an ideal, ready-made cheeseboard at a realistic price.’

The majority of packs were sold through Wholesaler Costco, a stockist of Ford Farm cheeses for many years.

Corrugated packaging specialists, Atlas Packaging, who designed the presentation box are delighted to be part of this success story. Liam Beades, Business Development Manager said: ‘There are so many things that need to be considered when designing shelf-ready packaging such as this. Firstly, it has to be easy to assemble so the production line can pack the product as quickly and efficiently as possible. Secondly, the weight of the contents has to be carefully considered and the strength of the board selected accordingly. Thirdly, it needs to have maximum on shelf impact to persuade customers to buy it. We think that in this instance, Atlas has successfully delivered on all counts and we are delighted with the result.’
