Broadland Drinks has increased its support for Whale and Dolphin Conservation (WDC), by moving to a donation from every bottle sold across its Waipapa Bay wine brand, as well as adding two new varietals to the range.

As part of the newly enhanced partnership, Waipapa Bay has joined WDC’s latest conservation initiative, the ‘Climate Giant’ project. The WDC’s flagship project offers a new model for businesses and brands to make a direct contribution to whale conservation, and research, as part of a nature-based solution to the climate crisis.

Waipapa Bay’s extended partnership with the organisation will see five pence donated to the charity from every bottle sold, which will be further supported by the launch of two new varietals in the form of a New Zealand Gruner Veltliner and a South African Sauvignon Blanc.

Fran Draper, Marketing Director for Broadland Drinks commented; “The vagaries of climate change are becoming increasingly apparent in the wine world, and for Waipapa Bay Wines the weather-related shortages of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc have brought it very close to home.

“By extending our range beyond New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc into NZ Gruner Veltliner and South African Sauvignon Blanc we hope to create a more sustainable range, introduce consumers to interesting alternative wines, and develop a wider opportunity to raise vital funds.

“Through our work with WDC and their Climate Giant Project we have come to understand the crucial role that whales and dolphins play in protecting ocean ecosystems, and we’re proud to play our small part in creating a more sustainable future by protecting these vital creatures across the globe.”

Abbie Cheesman, Partnerships manager from Whale and Dolphin Conservation commented; “We are delighted to have the opportunity to continue working with Waipapa Bay who have seen first-hand the effects that a changing climate can have. By supporting our Climate Giant Project, Waipapa Bay will be helping our efforts to bring together scientists and decision-makers from all over the world to raise awareness of the importance of whales in tackling climate change, as well as ensuring our vital work to protect these amazing creatures, like the humpback whales featured on each bottle, from the many threats they face.”
