British Lion eggs is donating eggs to the HelpNHSHeroes, an initiative set up by volunteers to provide food boxes for NHS workers for collection at their place of work. The scheme has been trialled at pop-up shops at two NHS hospital sites, The Lister, Stevenage and The Royal Berkshire, Reading and following positive feedback will be rolled out to more hospital sites.

NHS staff can register on a bespoke App to place a food box order for collection at the end of their shift. A pop-up café is also providing breakfast free of charge for shift workers on back-to-back shifts.

HelpForHeroes is now planning to scale up to national distribution following the successful trial and interest from more than 40 hospitals across the UK. The boxes, which are designed to provide meals for a family of four for two days, and cover all nutritional needs, such as protein, carbohydrates and fruit and vegetables, will be sold on a non-profit basis for £30.

Jason Mawer, Founder of HelpNHSHeroes, says: “We started this initiative when we saw our hardworking NHS staff were unable to get hold of basic food items after their gruelling shifts. The support from British Lion eggs to help make the initial trials a success has been invaluable with universally positive feedback from NHS workers. We are now in a position to start rolling out the scheme across the UK.”
