Bagged sweets are continuing to drive the confectionery category and the growth in this sector is keeping the sector buoyant according to Bonds Confectionery managing director Philip Courtenay-Luck who commented: “Bonds re-vamped Sweetshop range of traditional bagged products has seen an uplift of 23% year on year in 2012 and would have therefore outperformed the market by a considerable margin.
“There’s also an interest in products which invoke childhood nostalgia which is why our Retro Classics bag has been Bonds Confectionery’s most popular product launch of 2012 because it includes favourites drawn from several manufacturers such as Love Hearts, Parma Violets and Dennis & Gnasher chew bars. Sharing products such as these and our newly launched Chocolate Mix and Honeycomb bags are also becoming increasingly popular due to their convenience and size.”
Throughout 2013 Bonds Confectionery is continuing to promote the lines which were launched in 2012. Philip adds: “Not only are we promoting our 2012 launches but we’ll also be looking to invest further in our other products, one such range to receive this treatment will be our 39p bag offering as we look to improve upon its 25 million units a year.”
The confectionery market is very competitive and Bonds Confectionery understands that it is important to publicise its range of products. Philip said: “Bonds Confectionery own brand is sold in independent retailers with ever increasing volumes being sold under supermarket and retailers own label. We’ve seen that increasingly there is limited shelf space; therefore it’s important to offer the customer the best range possible in new and innovative ways. As a result, Bonds has significantly revamped and re-launched its website. Now, distributers and retailers can log in and order their own products at any time of day or night, without the need to bulk buy.”
Philip concludes: “It’s important to Bonds Confectionery that we provide the opportunity for all to be able to order their products or peruse our ranges on an easy to use portal and we are now receiving orders from overseas, as far as the USA and Australia.”
