The rising cost of eating out is providing a significant opportunity for retailers to drive sales of ‘Big Night In’ products, including food that can be cooked quickly and conveniently.


As many young adults spend more time at home in the evenings, lots of them are filling the hunger gap with easy-to-prepare micro-snacking products such as Rustlers and ZUGO’S Deli Café,

“People enjoying a night in, whether it’s a few drinks with friends, watching – sporting events or just spending time online, want tasty, filling snacks that allow them to get on with what they’re enjoying,” says John Armstrong, Marketing Director of Kepak Convenience Foods, the driving force in the – hot, quick & tasty category and market leader in the micro-snacking market.

“There’s also scope for Big Night In meal deals to drive cross-category purchases and to increase shoppers’ average weight of purchase. For example, retailers could offer two micro-snacking products and a 2 litre soft drink for £5,” says Armstrong.

Kepak has targeted the Big Night In occasion with a raft of new products this year including the Rustlers Tikka Chicken Hot Naan.

The company has also announced new flowrap packaging for the Tikka Chicken Hot Naan, which will feature more chicken than previously, providing better chicken coverage across the naan bread and providing consumers with even better value for money.

“Rustlers Tikka Chicken Hot Naan has a clear point of difference to other HQT products, enabling people to enjoy one of their favourite Indian flavours in a quick-to-cook format. The new flowrap pack and better shelf standout will attract even more shoppers and revised chicken content will provide consumers with an even more satisfying micro-snack,” adds Armstrong.

To increase sales, Kepak advises keeping best-selling products in stock 100 per cent of the time. In the case of micro-snacking, retailers should ensure they have Kepak’s must-stock lines constantly available. The company’s ‘Originals’ range which includes the Rustlers Quarter Pounder, Rustlers Chicken Sandwich and Rustlers BBQ Rib are retailers’ best-selling products, followed by the Rustlers Hot Subs Southern Fried Chicken and ZUGO’S Deli Café Chicken, Mozzarella and Pesto products.

Kepak is capitalising on growing demand for its products with major levels of brand investment this year, led by television advertising and major brand partnerships.
