millarrankinselectionBuilding on the successful launch of its Rankin Selection savoury pies last year, Northern Ireland specialist convenience foods manufacturer, Millar Savoury Foods has just secured a listing with Asda Scotland’s 30 stores for three of the products in the range. The brand has performed extremely well in Asda, Sainsbury’s, Tesco and many of the symbol groups in Northern Ireland, as well as in Sainsbury’s Scotland where it was listed from initial launch last March. The range is also stocked in Dunnes Stores in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland.

Rankin Selection pies were created as a result of a collaboration between Millar Savoury Foods and celebrity chef Paul Rankin to fill a gap in the mainstream retail sector for a range of premium quality, individually portioned pies. Paul Rankin was heavily involved in every step of the recipe development to create a range of luxury pies made from the finest quality, fully traceable local ingredients and without the use of any artificial colourings, flavourings, preservatives, MSG or hydrogenated fats. The popular TV chef continues to work closely with Millar Savoury Foods, regularly tasting the pies to ensure they meet his stringent standards, as well as in the development of new extensions to the range.

The full range of individual pies, topped with Millar Savoury Foods’ renowned puff pastry, includes Chunky Chicken & Leek, Irish Steak & Kidney and Irish Steak & Roasted Root Vegetables, which have been listed by Asda Scotland since the beginning of May, as well as Irish Potato & Leek and Peppered Venison & Mushrooms.

Commenting, Clarke Millar, Commercial Director of Millar Savoury Foods, said: “The local response to our Rankin Selection pies has been phenomenal. Their reception in Great Britain and the Republic of Ireland has also been astounding. All of the pies in the range have been extremely well received by retailers and consumers alike due to the quality of the ingredients, their authentic ‘homemade’ appearance and, of course, their great taste. They offer consumers something a little different to the existing selection of savoury pies on the market.

“We are delighted with how our Rankin Selection pies have performed to date and, following on from our latest break into the Scottish market with Asda, look forward to seeing the range stocked more widely throughout UK and Ireland,” added Clarke.

Based in Eglinton, County Londonderry, the family owned and managed Millar Savoury Foods was established in 1969, having evolved from its roots in the butchery trade dating back to the 1920s. With full BRC Grade A accreditation for its modern processing facilities, today the company is a leading manufacturer of savoury snacks, including microwavable burgers, hot dogs, scotch eggs, pies and sausages rolls.
