Anglia Co-operative has installed TOSHIBA TEC ST-B20 modular EPoS terminals into its recently opened store in Littleport, Cambridgeshire. Anglia Co-operative Society operates over 100 retail outlets in the UK, which include Co-operative Food Stores.

Anglia Co-operative, a long standing TOSHIBA EPoS customer, made the decision to migrate to the ST-B20 terminals based on the reliability and versatility of their existing estate of TOSHIBA terminals, which had been in place since 2001.

“We’ve had TOSHIBA tills installed in our food stores for over 8 years and as a modular solution they have more than exceeded our expectations in terms of reliability and performance.” said Richard Feast, IT Manager, Anglia Co-operative.

As a forward thinking and innovative Co-operative Society, a key consideration for Anglia when choosing its EPoS solution was the need to deliver an exceptional customer store experience.

“Something as simple as a poor experience at the check-out can ruin the customer experience, so a considerable amount of time was invested on the in-store layout and EPoS design. Our original decision to work with TOSHIBA was based on their future proofed PC technology. The reliability of TOSHIBA hardware is fantastic. It was the right decision as TOSHIBA’s ST-B20 model is an ideal fit,” added Richard Feast.

The Littleport store opened in mid-November 2010 in time for Christmas trading. TOSHIBA worked with Anglia to provide a tailored solution to enable the retailer to deploy its existing TOSHIBA ODAKS (Operator Display and Keyboard Screens) with the new ST-B20 terminals.

“TOSHIBA’S engineering team worked closely with us. We put a lot of faith in the TOSHIBA technology and we had no doubt the solution would be ready for the critical Christmas trading period,” commented Mark Ward, Service Delivery Manager, Anglia Co-operative.

The innovative ST-B20, designed with front and rear ‘slide-out components’, fewer internal cables and front HDD access, enables hard drives to be changed and data reloaded without the need to remove the unit from the counter, greatly reducing service times.

The ST-B20 is a powerful, yet energy saving, modular terminal which is designed to reduce environmental impact, minimise downtime and offer a cost-efficient upgrade,  perfect for retailers looking to protect their existing IT investments.  Offering superior connectivity, the system not only provides full support for legacy peripherals, but is uniquely future-proofed for innovative new options.

Since the installation, Anglia Co-operative has reported faster transaction times at the check-out improving customer service. To further enhance the customer experience, Anglia installed second customer facing screens enabling greater visual impact at the check-out and providing a cost-efficient and effective way of introducing advertising and special promotions.

“We continue to be impressed with TOSHIBA. They worked with us to deliver the store opening on time and their B20s have fitted perfectly within the environment,” said Richard Feast. “Staff find the tills very easy to use and importantly customer feedback is very positive. Plus, we know that these terminals are future proofed, giving us the confidence that they can be deployed and serviced for our future foods stores.”
