Ahold, one of the world’s leading grocery retailers has chosen Capgemini, one of the world’s foremost providers of consulting, technology and outsourcing services and Enabler Wipro, a leading international IT and business services company, for a multi-year consulting and systems integration project to build applications designed to differentiate Ahold brands in the US market. Capgemini and Enabler Wipro will assist Ahold USA in deploying Oracle Retail applications to support its strategic initiatives across a broad range of areas including merchandising, supply chain, store operations, planning, and analysis.
The enterprise-wide system will replace a mix of packaged and custom applications, and the collaboration between Capgemini and Enabler Wipro will provide consulting and integration services for one of the largest retail industry transformation initiatives on an Oracle platform in the world.
“Getting consistent information out of our separate applications today is time-consuming and challenging,” said Dave McNally, Ahold’s Global Chief Information Officer. “The implementation of Oracle Retail will create the foundation for our future retail systems. On top of that foundation we will develop capabilities that differentiate us in the marketplace. We are working with Capgemini because they understand our industry and our company and can help us drive the transformation necessary to deliver to our customers the right products at the right place, at the right time, and right quantities. Enabler Wipro has an excellent track record with high-profile, large-scale Oracle Retail implementations and strong expertise in this area.”
Ahold commissioned Capgemini and Enabler Wipro to work in a collaborative partnership – Capgemini demonstrating its strength in Business Transformation and Enabler Wipro employing its Oracle Retail solution experience, successfully demonstrated through previous large implementations.
This latest initiative builds on a successful long-term relationship between Capgemini and Ahold in Europe, where Capgemini has helped Albert Heijn, the Dutch supermarket chain owed by Ahold, streamline product data management in a key step towards global data synchronisation. In addition, Capgemini and Ahold have collaborated in a number of cross-industry task forces and associations, including the Global Commerce Initiative, ECR Europe and the Grocery Manufacturers of America.
“This is a landmark win for Capgemini in North America and further demonstrates our commitment to driving deep sector expertise into the market through a combination of process consulting and technology know-how,” said Lanny Cohen, Chief Executive Officer for Capgemini’s Project & Consulting business in North America. “Capgemini’s global experience with retail transformation will help Ahold USA achieve improvements in its cost structure by integrating four of our retail practice offerings: Store Operations, Finance Transformation, Retail Merchandising and Supply Chain plus our knowledge of Oracle Retail to help deliver a single version of the truth for company-wide data.”
“Key to the success of this opportunity was the strong collaboration and partnership between Capgemini and Enabler Wipro,” said Antonio Murta, Managing Director of Enabler Wipro. “Ahold recognised the power of the combined team where our individual strengths were combined to provide the winning combination of capability and experience to transform their business.”
