union-ab-produceUnion Industries, the market leading manufacturer of the Matadoor range of Hi-Speed Doors, has scored a hat-trick at vegetable specialists AB Produce Ltd. Leeds based Union Industries has completed the installation of its third Matadoor at AB Produce’s purpose-built factory in Measham, Derbyshire. All three of the Matadoors, which have been installed in internal locations at the 70,000 square-foot factory, have replaced unreliable and maintenance-heavy doors.

With the openings in constant use, AB Produce, which serves the food retail, food processing, retail and wholesale markets, faced the challenge of maintaining a consistent temperature within its large potato stores.

Through their reliable and fast-acting operation, Union’s doors ensure that controlled temperature levels can be achieved, which is a great boost in managing energy costs.

The two existing 3m x 3m high Matadoors, and the new 2m x 2.5m high Matadoor, also aid in maintaining the hygiene of the store as their fast 1.6 metre per second operating speed virtually eradicates the opportunity for the ingress of pests, vermin, dirt and dust.

AB produces, washes, grades and packs in the region of 1,000 tonnes of potatoes every week, from bakers such as Nadine and Maris Piper to salad potato varieties including Charlotte and Maris Peer.

The company, which employs 270 staff, also specialises in Prepared Produce, which, in addition to potatoes, includes swede, parsnip, turnip, onion and leek in whole, sliced or diced format.

Manufactured as part of the Matadoor range of Hi-Speed Roller Doors, the Matadoors feature Union’s renowned ‘Crash-Out & Auto-Reset’ facility, which ensure the doors remains operable even if hit by a forklift truck or vehicle.
Common to all doors in the Matadoor Range, they are supplied as standard with fire retardant, anti-static and high gloss easy clean door blades which are beneficial features for all working environments.

Martin McQuaide, Operations Director at AB Produce said: “Maintaining a consistent temperature in the stores is a vital part of retaining the freshness and quality of our vegetables. Union’s doors proved to meet our exact requirements and we had no hesitation in ordering a third Matadoor when the requirement arose.”

Neil Irwin, Technical Sales Engineer at Union Industries, said: “Reducing heat loss and managing building temperatures is becoming an increasing concern for companies as they focus on controlling costs and environmental impact. The Matadoor range has achieved an enviable reputation in this field, particularly in the food and produce sector, as more businesses like AB Produce develop their premises.”
