MRMU sees the launch of its latest store in partnership with Co-op franchise, with the brand new convenience store opening to serve the Cornish harbour town of Fowey.

The store is operated as a franchise by MRMU, a long-time partner of Co-op’s Franchise operation who opened their first Co-op store together at Cornwall Services (A30) in 2021. MRMU has since gone on to open eight Co-op stores, located in Cornwall, Devon, Cambridgeshire, Gloucestershire and East Sussex.

Martin Rogers, Director of Partnership Development, Co-op, said: “We are delighted to build on our successful partnership with MRMU, and to launch our latest Franchise store together in the beautiful harbour town of Fowey. Growing our franchise business is core to our convenience approach. Our stores are focused on providing great quality, value and deals, alongside community participation and ethical retailing. Sharing our convenience expertise, co-operative difference and unique proposition with quality partners, is enabling us to bring Co-op products and the benefits of Co-op membership to more communities.”

Last week also saw a new Co-op franchise store open at a brand new Roadside Service Station in Stowmarket in partnership with EG On the Move. The EG Stowmarket site, located on the A1308 Needham Road, became the first new site to open with Co-op in partnership with EG On The Move following the opening of a number of trial locations last summer – with shared ambitions to launch further sites together later this year.

The new Fowey store is located in Polvillion Road, Fowey, and creates 14 new local jobs.

Opening between 7am – 10pm daily, Fowey’s new Co-op includes a focus on fresh, healthy, chilled and frozen products, bakery and, Costa Coffee Express. This sits alongside an extensive range and choice of food-to-go and meal deals; Fairtrade products, pizzas, flowers; ready meals, award winning beers and wines and, every day essentials. Payment services are available via PayPoint.

Soft plastic recycling is also available, enabling shoppers to return harder to recycle materials such as crisp packets and bread bags, lids from ready meals, biscuit wrappers and, pet food pouches.

Member price savings create additional value for Co-op’s member-owners, with personalised offers for members and lower prices on the products shoppers buy most.

Caitlyn Berry, Manager of Fowey’s new Co-op, added: “We have had a great response. The whole team is delighted to launch a brand new Co-op store in Fowey – it is a beautiful town which we are proud to be part of. The store looks fantastic, and we are looking forward to serving our local community and visitors to the area. We pride ourselves on being able to deliver the quality, choice and value which can be enjoyed by everyone. We’re here to contribute to local life and conveniently serve and support Fowey.”

Co-op is one of the world’s largest consumer-owned co-operatives, with its history dating back more than 180 years. Co-op exists to create value for its membership and communities, and its 6.5m members own the business and play an intrinsic part in the governance of the organisation.
