Henderson Technology is celebrating the 15th anniversary of EDGEPoS, its award-winning electronic point of sale (EPOS) system, launched in 2010. More than just a milestone, the company is using the anniversary to signal its ambitions for the next era of retail technology.

Designed by retailers, for retailers, EDGEPoS was created to meet the challenges of a competitive and fast-moving convenience and forecourt sector. Over the last 15 years, it has evolved into a full suite of solutions that now includes standalone and hybrid self-checkouts, electronic shelf-edge labels (ESELs), and most recently, trials of AI-powered monitoring of both self-checkouts and whole-store activities. The next chapter is already underway with date-checking software developments, a centralised fuel management system, AI loss prevention and new data-driven decision tools all in development to help retailers run smarter, more efficient stores.

Today, 1,100 retailers across the United Kingdom and Australia use EDGEPoS, making it one of the most innovative and trusted EPOS systems in the market. As the business grows, Henderson Technology is clear that the right technology is about balance: while some solutions are universal, others must be tailored to each retailer’s needs. Working with retailers allows the business to learn from the best, ensuring every innovation is practical, scalable and commercially viable.

As part of its anniversary celebrations, Henderson Technology has also focused on giving back through its charity initiatives. The team partnered with Action Mental Health (AMH), a key charity for the wider Henderson Group, to mark the milestone in line with World Mental Health Day.

Henderson Technology organised a fundraising collection at the SPAR Mallusk flagship store, while the company also invested in AMH Awareness Training for its staff. This combination of fundraising and training demonstrates a commitment that goes beyond financial support, helping to raise awareness and build understanding of mental health in the workplace.

“EDGEPoS was built by retailers, for retailers and its growth over 15 years is testament to how we have adapted to their needs,” said Darren Nickels, Retail Technology Operations Director at Henderson Technology.

“Technology has never been more important than it is today, but it’s also not one-size-fits-all. Working alongside retailers allows us to learn from the best and deliver solutions that truly fit their businesses. The future is already taking shape, from AI to advanced fuel management and loss prevention, and our role is to make sure every retailer has access to the right tools to grow.

“But the next 15 years present even greater opportunities. From AI and automation to sustainability-driven retail, we are already investing to ensure EDGEPoS continues to give our retailers an edge and keeps them head of customer expectations. Marking the 15th anniversary alongside World Mental Health Day is not only a milestone in EDGEPoS’ growth but also a launchpad for Henderson Technology’s vision, working in partnership with retailers to shape the future of convenience and forecourt retail,” he added.
