This Christmas, England’s oldest family-owned marmalade, Duerr’s is bringing its iconic citrus craft to the world of spirits – unveiling a limited-edition Marmalade Rum, created in partnership with its northern neighbours, Salford Rum.
A true celebration of Duerr’s 144-year marmalade heritage, this one-off festive tipple captures the depth, warmth and unmistakable zing of the beloved Duerr’s Fine Cut Marmalade.
This celebration of six generations of craftmanship puts a 2025 twist on a household favourite. Stepping away from marmalade on toast but using the same bold flavours, this is the nation’s breakfast favourite as you’ve seen it before.
Made from Duerr’s Fine Cut Seville marmalade straight from the jar, much loved local spirits brand Salford Rum – which is well known for its premium spiced rums as well as collectable, limited-edition flavours – has developed and distilled a delicious one-off rum that is the perfect tipple – inspired by breakfast!
To honour the original recipes, each batch is distilled with:
- Duerr’s Fine Cut Seville Orange Marmalade – delivering that unmistakable, sticky-sweet citrus punch.
- Fresh Orange Peel – layering in juicy brightness
- Dried Lemon Peel – enhancing zest and aromatic freshness
- Almond – distilled to give a naturally smooth finish (no allergens remain in the final spirit)
Made with a white Molasses base rum from Guyana, the rum is finished with sugar and some more orange and ginger making the finished product taste just like the iconic marmalade but with a boozy kick, bringing Duerr’s signature flavour to life in a warm, unexpected Christmas tipple.
A Manchester institution since its founding in 1881, Duerr’s grew at a time when oranges, sugar and spices were arriving in the city via the bustling Salford Docks. While detailed records are scarce, it’s widely believed the fruit used in Duerr’s earliest marmalades would have passed through these very docks.
Today, Salford Rum draws inspiration from the same historic trade routes, celebrating the rums, fruits and spices that once flowed into the city from the Caribbean. With both brands rooted in Salford’s trading past, this Christmas collaboration is a natural meeting of shared local heritage.
This limited-edition rum marks an exciting new chapter for Duerr’s, bringing its iconic flavour to a completely new audience.
The marmalade giant recently rebranded its online channels across its website and Instagram. The move aims to take Duerr’s Marmalade into 2026, and broaden its appeal among Gen Z, reminding people why they love marmalade.
Speaking at the taste testing, Richard Duerr said: “Marmalade is at the heart of who we are, so seeing our original recipe reimagined into a rum has been very exciting. Working with Salford Rum allowed us to create something new together that brings to life our flavours for a whole new audience.
“Salford Rum have captured the bright, warming and unmistakably Duerr’s flavour whilst celebrating their own unique product and rum style – it is the perfect Christmas treat.”
The rum will go on sale via Salford Rum’s webshop from Sunday 14th December in gorgeous signature 70CL bottles. With presentation and gifting boxes available online, the 37.5% ABV Marmalade Rum is the perfect special gift for rum lovers this Christmas. (RRP £42).
Tommy Gaughan, co-founder of Salford Rum, said: “This limited-edition marmalade rum, created and distilled in the shadows of the old Salford docks, is set to be a sure fire hit with both rum and marmalade lovers this Christmas. It’s been incredible collaborating with a Greater Manchester institution such as Duerr’s, which has such a rich heritage in the region. As always, we encourage shoppers to act quickly if they want to bag a bottle as we are sure they will sell out fast.”
